I am looking for a small motorcycle that I can lay in a car trunk or in the back of a hatch back. Here's the hard part. I want something that will do at least 55mph. This won't solve the problem, but might give you somewhere to look. I needed some thing light to hang on the back of a 5th wheel trailer. What I ended up with was a 1980 Yamaha DT175 that was in desperate need of some-thing approaching TLC. After it was rehashed it was exactly what I wanted. It weighs 220 lbs, (or 100 kg for the Imperially challenged), and it will do 55 mph/90 km with no problem. I weigh about 190 lbs fully dressed, which I find is the most comfortable way to run a bike. A Honda CT110 "postie" bike will do 50mph in stock form and with a 125cc upgrade should meet your parameters. Loading one in a small car solo might be a challenge. Not sure what they weigh. A moped with a 70cc kit and pipe and proper gearing will get close to 50mph and at circa 110lbs wet can be loaded in a car by one person. I've done it a few times recently when I've needed to deliver a vehicle or park my truck at my other house. Mine is geared low to haul my 200lbs up hills and will still hit 35mph easily. I haven't ridden it enough to consider it properly broken in but imagine 40mph will be no problem even with the low gearing. The only problem it that in CA these vehicles are only legal iof ridden under 30 mph. Also, no motorcycle endorsement or liability insurance is reuired to ride them in this state. My moped is a 1978 J.C. Penney Pinto, made by Kromag of Austria using Puch Maxi (Z50) running gear; engine, wheels, brakes, axles, and suspension. Even if it would do 55 mph, I would not like riding it on the freeway. The Hondas are great bikes though; if you stay off the freeway you're golden.
