Twice recently I have seen pictures of people on asphalt with their foot out like they were riding MX. One was riding the 'Dragon'; another illustration is in the 'banner' of the link below. http://www.husaberg.com/100-Husability.376.7.html?&bikeID=62&cHash=62b9c94a00 For those that have done this sort of thing-- Is this normal for asphalt racing/riding? Tumu, you got to ride a race bike on course; what did they tell you about putting your foot out? You never see a GP rider with their foot down.... revmaaatin.

Supermoto riders do it SUPPOSEDLY because of the peg configuration and the desire to throw more weight on to the front tire. Personally I think it looks like a really nice way to break an ankle. -Jeff Khoury From: "revmaaatin" To: "DSN KLR650" DSN_KLR650@yahoogroups.com> Sent: Thursday, February 24, 2011 11:33:21 AM Subject: [DSN_KLR650] NKLR: track days illustration Twice recently I have seen pictures of people on asphalt with their foot out like they were riding MX. The techniques used for sport bike racing are different than those used in supermoto racing. Sometimes, during supermoto races, they look more like a motocrosser than sport bike racer. I believe it has more to do with weight transfer than anything else. Alan Henderson A13 Iowa

Rev, It depends on HOW you want to go through the corner. If you want to do it dirty stylee with the back end braking loose, you sit on top of the bike (weighting the outside peg) and keep the foot out so if the bike goes down, it's not on top of you. If you want to maintain traction and ride smoothly through the corner, keep your feet on the pegs and shift your body to the inside of the bike. That said, I've actually seen Casey Stoner in videos with his leg out as he enters, presumably on the brakes, a corner in GP racing. The foot goes back on the peg before he's too deep into the corner but it's bizarre to see someone use BOTH techniques in the same corner. Must work pretty well though, I hear he does all right in them races. da Vermonster

Ever seen Valentino Rossi ride? http://lococanvas.com/valentino-rossi-drop-down-foot-wallpaper/ I would say just about anything about Rossi is not normal. I see more and more road racers adopt this foot down in the corner trick. Well, I stand corrected. Obviously, I am not watching close enough. As Jeff K. stated, it looks like an ankle breaker waiting to happen. If that is the latest technique to 'go-faster', I would say I am past trying that...I seem to find my way to hospital (just fine) without trying anything new! Inside Fred's links is this additional link/picture. It appears they are letting jr-high kids ride monster bikes. http://lococanvas.com/yamaha-great-result-stoner-still-calm/ It begs the question, "Does your mama know you ride this thing?" revmaaatin. (my mama quit asking what I do along time ago)

Rossi has won a few races so it must work for him. He is The Doctor. Not to mention, he probably weighs about a quarter of what I weigh. Alan Henderson A13 Iowa

Apparently Rossi puts his foot "forward" under braking. He has no idea why. Robert P. Wichert P.Eng LEED AP +1 916 966 9060 FAX +1 916 966 9068 ===============================================
