I like my 16T front sprocket. Cruise at 80 all day and I even hit 90 when no 5-0 is around. Jeffrey #3

bigger cs sprocket: benefits?

As I noted earlier, changing the gearing changes the relationship between the engine's low vibration rpm points relative to your mph. That may be a good / bad thing. I tried a 16T with my 44T rear (aftermarket) on a 300 mile round trip. It vibrated a lot more at my normal 50-55 mph on the two-lanes. This might be perculiar to my counter-weighted stock handlebars but damn, my hands were numb for most of the trip. Once home, I went back to the stock 15T counter with the 44T rear and there was an improvement at my speeds. So, a 16T might be a good thing at 80 mph but I'd be dead when I hit the on-road horse crap here in Amish Country. 50-55 mph and lower gearing is good for my normal situations. Don R100, A6F

fireman ed selling his klr?

Post by Ed Costine » Thu Jan 20, 2011 5:51 pm

Yes, he is. Check out the "bike stuff for sale section" in the applications for the listing. I haven't ridden it (except for twice last summer to warm it up in the yard) for well over a year It is time to part with some toys and she is the test case to see what I can get rid of. I loved reading and spending time with many of you (loved smoking cigars with Jud over a camp fire), and I may some day again get back into riding, but with two young kids, I just have no time for it now. The venerable Craig Vetter of Vetter fairings fame has a 2008 KLR and he and his Wife were going to do the Alaska HWY thing last year, they ended up not going but on his site craig vetter.com you can read about a fairing he made for his KLR,looks quite good but what I'm getting to is his choice of sprocket size,he went with a 16 front and a 39 rear which dropped his RPM at 60MPH to 3.200RPM from 4.000RPM which would suite your Galand Strass riding a lot better i think, not sure how this would be for any semi tricky offroad stuff that would depend on your ability's i guess.                                                                                              Stu. Craig spends a lot of time thinking about MPG. He probably geared up because it is a natural tendancey for him at this point. Anybody who questions how much time and effort he has put into that should buy his dvd from the site or read about the Scoter he has been working on for some time now
