Calculated max speed is 106.2 MPH.
Mine actually topped out at (measured by GPS) 99.1 MPH.

Good work. Thanks. Just curious... how stable was it at that speed? -Christian> Calculated max speed is 106.2 MPH. > > Mine actually topped out at (measured by GPS) 99.1 MPH.

The bike was very stable. I don't think the motor would have been
very comfortable at that speed for a long time. The bike didn't
exactly get their in a hurry either.

Into a 25 mph head wind last night I wasn't able to get her past 85 (GPS). With no wind I've had her up to 95 (GPS) and still
slightly accelerating. I'd say 100 mph is probably about max. It also depends on what you're wearing. I had on a windbreaker last
night that was probably acting like a parachute.

I have seen a GPS recorded 98MPH which was an indicated 105+ on the clock.
If you tuck down behind the fairing (if it is clean you can actually see
through it) and put your left hand in the the center of the bars, move back
on the saddle, wear nice tight fitting leathers I am sure 100MPH is doable
The bike felt stable to me at that speed which is a good job considering
my dangerous steering position. The bike feels less stable at 65MPH on a
busy freeway. In still air there are no such problems.
Seriously you can get an extra 10MPH above 80MPH by simply by doing the
above with a constant throttle.
I normally ride at close to the posted limit on the KLR anyway so it is all
academic

Hey Fellas, I'm just curious, what the fastest you guys have gone on
the KLR650? I had it wide open today, and I barely got to 100mph.
Mine is completely stock. I still thought I would see around 110-115.
I know a bigger front sprocket will increase the speed, I think I am
gonna go get one. It did have a full tank of gas, and I weigh 250.
Maybe I should go on a diet???
Thanks,

That's probably about it. With stock gearing it's geared for about
110, .but most bikes won't pull redline in top without a tailwind.
I've heard claims of 115, but I'm skeptical. Gearing taller won't
help, the aerodynamics prevent it. In addition, the stock speedo
seems to be about eight percent high.

If you drill out the carb slide hole to 1/8" you will get over
100mph. but you will lose 3-5 miles per gallon of fuel. If you plan
on going that fast I suggest you get a forkbrace and more street
oriented tires
