klr650-- darn fog !!

Post by Luc Legrain » Wed Feb 10, 2010 11:26 am

I'm an all weather rider ( no ice ) with the appropriate gear, of course. One thing that I have been trying to resolve is the fogging issue, first on my prescription glasses, and then on the shield ,I think I've tried everything available to get rid of the fog .nothing works . Any suggestions ?

One thing that worked for me was to wash your shield with soapy water and don't rinse off completely... leave a film on it. I also suppose those anti fogging products would work good too. -- Roger Dill Innovative Financial Solutions 210-681-1848 T 866-831-4661 F www.ifsdebtpros.com

Fred http://www.arrowheadmotorsports.com http://s1.zetaboards.com/arrowhead
To: moabmc@... That was the problem with mine. I think we went down 2 spring sizes when Eagle Mike helped me with mine. Me and a friend inspected the doo and spring recently and everything was fine (except a missing spacer-washer over where the starter gears are). I have since replaced the missing washer. One thing on high milage KLR's, another friend who is a very good mechanic and teaches small engine repair had a roller bearing crater on I think the balancer chain sprocket area while he was riding it doing some damage. He grabbed the clutch when he heard things going ari keeping it from locking up. He was going to replace the cam chain and balancer chain but didn't as he said they were still in spec. His KLR has 75,000 miles on it. The friend that helped me pull the flywheel for the inspection had his spring break even though the doo and the spring were replaced. His KLR has about 45,000 miles on it and he says he is going to replace the chains at 50,000 miles. He also has the 685 kit on itand rides the crap out of it. Anybody replace their cam chain or balancer chain and what did it intell including costs?  Criswell       ~~~I asked Fred about the springs primarily as he didn't mention doing springs on 08' + KLR's.  We've heard for quite sometime that the doo was significantly upgraded on the 08's...but I haven't heard much about the springs being bad, which is why I wanted Fred's take on them   I have an 08' (w/about 9 K miles on the odometer) and haven't done the doo/spring replacement yet (and I have the Eagle Mike kit).  I've gone half way into the job though...I'll explain.  You might recall me mentioning a few months back how after loosening the doo adjustment bolt and re-tightening it (for the 8 K mile maint. interval), the o-ring on the adjustor shaft started leaking oil out through the rubber plug cover     The leak was significant enough IMO to warrant pulling the cover to get at the o-ring so I could replace it, which I did but it wouldn't be a simple fix as when I removed the left outer cover, one of the four shims for the two starter shafts was MIA.  Jeff Saline spotted the missing shim via a photo I sent him to look at.  I couldn't find the washer thinking it was never installed by Rahjev during originaly assembly but still, there was a possibility the shim flipped behind the rotor during the left outer cover removal.  Only way to tell for sure was to pull the rotor which I did and sure enough, the shim was under the rotor   I could have pulled the inner cover to get at the spring but I needed the bike for a ride and figured I'd get back into it after awhile, hence I've been half way through this job.  I'll do the doo completely soon enough but was just wondering how others have found the doo spring with their 08' and later KLR's       Jake Reddick Fla. TEAMWORK = a bunch of people doing what I say

NOT SURE YET! I bought a little red cantainer Called "cat crap" at BMW, when i tried it wasn't so great, BUT they said it works Best after applieing a few coats the first time. (applie, let dry, wipe, repete) so I will soon find out when the ice is gone.   My thoughts IF SO, then maybe others Need the same application. ?? My next step is a Heated visior, they use for snowmobiling. (Hey maybe the heater will give me a tan also?? LOL) From: Luc Legrain To: DSN_KLR650@yahoogroups.com Sent: Wed, February 10, 2010 12:25:39 PM Subject: [DSN_KLR650] klr650-- Darn Fog !!   I'm an all weather rider ( no ice ) with the appropriate gear, of course. Speaking of Lemon Pledge... It works great for taking scratches out of wind shield, visor, reading glasses, etc. Just apply with a soft cloth and rub it in well. It has some wax in it and fills in the scratches. -- Roger Dill Innovative Financial Solutions 210-681-1848 T 866-831-4661 F www.ifsdebtpros.com

Re: [DSN_KLR650] klr650-- Darn Fog !! Nothing fogs up as much as swimming goggles, if you swim laps. Baby Shampoo rubbed on undiluted has worked wonders. Bogdan

HJC has a page recomending "Fog city" anti fog shield.
it is an insert (thin plastic??) liner, and show a Natianal Racing group that uses it. (1 time job, $16.)

I've had great results with Zooke. Before I started using that I bought an anti-fog shield that goes inside on my helmet face shield. It also worked good, but at night it kinda blurs your vision looking thru two shields, and at sunset when the sun hits the double shields just right it gives kind of a rainbow effect that makes it hard to see when your in the twisties.   I've tried other stuff too, but overall zooke works the best with the least amount of trouble.   g
