First off, thanks to Jeff Saline and Revmaatin for pointing me to New Enogh and this hecka deal. Just arrived yesterday (ordered Mon. by the way) and tried it on this AM. I have a Joe Rocket Meteor I bought from eBay when I first got back into riding. It's an XL because I'm 6'5",240lbs and I usually have to go XL to get enough length. This means it fits kind of loose and I look like a linebacker when I wear it. I also have a Rev'It Air Force mesh jacket in some weird Euro size (56) that fits nice except in length (sleeves mostly).
So the idea behind buying the Torrent was to get a LG but in a tall (LG Tall). It fits snug but I like the length. It almost fits correctly, better than either of my other jackets. The elbow armor seems the slightest bit off but shoulders are OK. It's a good thing the bottom of the zipper is upwardly adjustable because climbing on the '06 KLR with 1" raising links would be very awkward otherwise. I would think an XLT would be too loose on me. Living in NorCal means I don't need to worry about riding in below freezing temps unless I want to go looking for them so layering under it should not be necessary. I could probably get away with my fleece vest if absolutely necessary.
Quality seems good, about on par with the Joe Rocket or better but not up the standard of the Rev'It But the rev'It was $300 on sale and admittedly overpriced. The only things that I would like from the Torrent are a little more room (I guess I'm between sizes, need to diet or work out more to either make a LGT more roomy or an XLT more snug. But that's probably not going to happen), and for the zipper to match up with my Rev'It mesh pants (which, by the way, are just a little too short). The YKK zipper in the Torrent looks like it would zip right on to the Rev'It pants' YKK zipper but they "start" at opposite ends.
So basically, if you're a tall skinny geek with a potbelly like me you'll like the Torrent. It's definitely a steal at $65 ($79 and change including shipping from TX to CA). Hope I didn't use too many ( )'s, I mutter under my breath a lot.

first gear torrent jacket
Steve,
I signed up for newsletters from Newenough and got one stating that they were paying $12.00 for shipping for certain companies and First Gear was one of them.

Went to fire it up (choke on and hit starter), but just cranked away and would try and fire up, but then not). Tried several times, gave it some juice, etc...eventually battery went dead. Charged it up, checked out plug (OK), added a little Stay-bil fuel stabilizer and some fresh gas, tried again. Same issue. Had been stored entire month of August in the garage. Any thoughts on what problem might be would be appreciated. Thanks! > > Scott > Port Townsend, WA > '08KLR650 >
