service documents for 2006 klr 650

Post by ka0vsl » Mon Apr 13, 2009 7:54 pm

Hello to the group. I just picked up a 2006 KLR 650 from a friend. Have had several motorcycles in the last 40 years, I always try to finding the appropiate manuals for my technical library. Other than the factory owners manual, and the ubiquitous Chilton manuals, what other books are useful for service for a KRL of this vintage? TNX Jim Z SC

Hello Jim, Chilton doesn't make a service manual for the KLR. Clymers does and Kawasaki has two manuals. The KLR Base Manual is the original service manual and you will also need the Supplement Manual to cover all the changes up to 2007. There is a KLR specific DVD that will show you valve adjustment and several other service related jobs. Fred http://www.arrowheadmotorsports.com http://s1.zetaboards.com/arrowhead

<><><><><><> <><><><><><> Jim, I recently ordered a Clymer Manual for the 1987-2007 KLR650 from the Motor Bookstore. They had a very nice price, fast shipping and good communication. I think I had the book in hand in less than 5 business days from the order. Here is their e-mail to me: "Greetings from The Motor Bookstore. This email confirms the receipt of your order. We will send you another email when your order ships. If you need to contact us you may do so by calling us toll-free at 1-800-982-4599 in the US and Canada (all others please call 386-668-6363). The Motor Bookstore does not share, sell or trade its customer's private information with anyone. We appreciate your patronage, and we hope to see you again soon." I found them using google. I tried Amazon dot com and the order placed and over a week later I got notified they would not be able to fill the order. The one other publication I think you should consider is a De Lorme Gazetteer Atlas for your local riding area/state. That will help you find some interesting places to explore so you can test your maintenance of the bike. : ) Best, Jeff Saline ABC # 4412 South Dakota Airmarshal Airheads Beemer Club www.airheads.org The Beautiful Black Hills of South Dakota 75 R90/6, 03 KLR650, 79 R100RT . ____________________________________________________________ Get a life insurance quote online. spot - satellite tracker

Bob...I've got my SPOT mounted right next to my Zumo 550 and I haven't noticed any problem with the tracking function...Here's my track from the last 2 days http://share.findmespot.com/shared/face ... I6ZvNqrbIs and other than a flat tire repair between 4:48 and 6:17 today, it seems to have tracked my forward progress very well !!! Does Anybody use SLIME in there tires ? Date: Mon, 13 Apr 2009 11:11:59 -0400 Subject: RE: [DSN_KLR650] Spot - Satellite Tracker I just found a disturbing piece of information on the SPOT website in the FAQ's. Q: My spot device does not work properly near airports or when I have another GPS device closeby A: SPOT accepts interference from other electronic devices and should not be used in proximity to anything that generates strong electrical fields such as airports, radio towers, other GPS devices, etc. I found this to be a bit worrisome and called customer support and the lady told me that SPOT shouldn't be operated within 12 feet of a GPS device. This might make it tough to use a SPOT because I almost ALWAYS have my Garmin Zumo 550 on my handlebars when I travel. $bob$ _____ From: Dave Rogoski [mailto:dave.rogoski@...] Sent: Saturday, March 21, 2009 10:07 PM To: LDHunter Subject: Re: [DSN_KLR650] Spot - Satellite Tracker I pretty much agree with most of the review. The unit worked well in the top zippered pocket of my tank bag. It only rarely missed an update/track point. Also, they don't mention that the unit is not guaranteed to work all the way to the tip of South America. Coverage was not guaranteed to work the last 500 miles or so. I got mine to work in both Ushuaia and Bahia Lapataia but satellite overfly would not occur every 20 minutes. I would have to send 2 or 3 messages to get one through that far south. The Good, The Bad and The Ugly. http://www.gpsmagazine.com/2008/01/spot ... _perso.php $bob$ I have been following these two guys from Portland , Oregon riding to Ushuaia , Argentina for the past several weeks who are using Spot. It is a gas as you can zoom way in and switch to Satellite or Hybrid mode and really see the terrain, buildings, etc where they are. They are currently just outside of La Paz , Bolivia .
