It's been extremely cold here in ND and there must have been a slight opposing pressure between the upper plastic fairing on my 08 and the front fairing. So the plastic did what plastic does in frigid temps, and shattered around the screw. Just call me bummed, I'll answer, lol.

First off, kick yourself for only having one key. Then check the FAQ, which lists several key blanks that might work. You could take the list to the locksmith and have him try one at a time: "If you don't want to shell out the big bucks for a Kawasaki factory key blank, here are some alternatives that should work. Of the keys listed below, the Silca KW14 and KW14R are the only truly correct ones. It would probably be best to take the whole list to your key shop, and let them pick the one that will work the best. NOTE: The KLR comes with both right- and left-hand keys (the direction of the offset in the cross-section). So, not every blank will work. SILCA KW14, KW14R Curtis YM-58 (Yamaha?) Ford 5-cut primary blank ILCO KA15 X106 ILCO YH38 X77 ILCO X120 YH46 Taylor X90, X91 Curtis SU-9 (Suzuki)" Or publish your key code and maybe a Lister has the same key and can make you a copy. Whatever you do when this is solved, make 3 keys: One for daily use, one spare for the house, and one to hide on the bike. Note that copies made from copies using aftermarket blanks don't always work real well. __Arden
