I just installed the Galfner Braided Brake line and I cannot get it to bleed. I have gone thru a half a container of brake fluid no brakes at all and no bubbles anymore. Anyone have any suggestions.

Check and make sure one of your pads in the brake caliper is not in a bind. Are you getting pressure in the line? Loosen the lower end of the hose (you didn't say front or rear, but brake pad misalignment problems on the rear are pretty common) and see if fluid leaks out. If it does, I bet your caliper is somehow in a bind. Remove the caliper, jiggle the pads, re-install, and happy braking. Get a Mity-Vac from a local auto parts store? People love them (I've never tried it). Also, you could try using a syringe with a hose to inject brake fluid via the bleeder nipple thereby forcing the trapped air up into the reservior... I'll add that the caliper may have to taken off the fork to get the bleed screw to be at the very highest point on the caliper. As well, remove the pads and push the piston right into the caliper to get it to push as much air back up the line as possible. Maybe give the caliper a few taps with a hard tool as well, to dislodge air bubbles to another point in the caliper. If the air gets moved back up the line this way then there is a chance the bleeder may catch it the next time the fluid is pumped through. If all that does not work, try refitting the caliper to the bike with the piston-side pad fitted, but the other pad not. See if you can pump the piston out a bit with the brake lever, then open the bleed screw and lever the piston back into the caliper so that only the fluid in the caliper is squeezed out. I have had this argument with Elden lately when I installed my Tengai fork lowers in order to mount a dual piston brake caliper. Elden insists on bleeding his brakes with the top off the master cylinder reservoir. When done this way you have to squeeze the brake lever very slowly so as not to erupt brake fluid out of the open reservoir all over the gas tank. It takes forever this way because the bubble can travel faster than the fluid and you will never force it out. Try this, fill the res., replace the cap, and squeeze the lever several time rapidly, hold down on lever, and with the other hand crack the bleeder loose. Repeat until firm. It's a velocity thing more so than pressure. You will have to remove the reservoir top a couple of times to refill so you don't suck air. This is the only way I have been successful in getting all the air out. Watch out for the peenchy reservoir cap screws, this would be a good time to put stainless here. The other solution is a vacuum bleeder$$$$$$$. Morgan

It must be the front line. I had a hard time with mine also. Make sure no part of the brake line is above the brake resovoir. Air in the line will stay at the highest point. Also be carful of how the brake line is mounted at the forkes. My front tire pulled the brake line forward and rubed the plastic cover off.

i also had that problem the first time i needed to bleed. in the end, i got a 60cc syringe from work, filled it, attached it to the bleed valve, opened the bleed valve (not too far!) and carefully filled the system up from the bottom. it worked fine. main thing is to make sure there's no air leak in the system while you are filling it.

$$$$$$$ in this case is maybe $39.00 for the mity-vac with the vacuum gauge and all the hose fittings. I bought one for bleeding the twin calipers on my '81 SR, and used it for installing the stainless braided line on my KLR. From start to finish, it took me 20 minutes to install the hose. The bleeding took less than 10 minutes with the vacuum bleeder, including spending a couple of minutes tapping the MC and caliper with wrenches and bleeding it once the old fashioned way just to make sure. I agree with Devon here, the Mighty Vac makes this job a snap. I used one in the Automotive industry for 20 years and there were many cases where normal bleeding wouldn't cut it. i posted this hours ago and it never came up, so forgive me if it eventually posts twice. i had this same problem with the front brake the first time i needed to bleed. the next time, and on another bike (cr500) as well, i used a 60cc syringe connected to a tube connected to the bleed valve (opened not too much, so no air leaks in) and filled the system up backwards. worked like a charm. no subsequent bleeding required. _pete
