weird speedo problem

Post by carl_seattle » Tue Jul 08, 2008 6:30 pm

I'm posting this here in case someone else has a similar problem with their speedometer. The gear apparently locked up & caused the aluminum tabs on the actual wheel to sheer off. No way to fix it, as the missing parts are bearing-mating surfaces & welding new tabs on wouold need to be machined to mate up with the seal. Gonna hafta buy a new wheel. I called a bunch of junkwards & found one for $250. Ordered new gear/housing for $80 Only good news is will have 2 wheels, so can have on & off-road tires. I use the GPS's speedo off-road so that's fine.

I think(?) people have repaired this problem(the wheel) before. Maybe someone who has will chime in. ED

Haven't had this problem, but if I do I'll probably just pop for a bicycle computer/speedo or a Trailtech setup (about the same thing, but made for motos). __Arden
