Hello all. I am a new user of this group and new owner. I recently purchased a 98' KLR and am just getting a feel for the bike and learning what needs to be done. I live in Phoenix, so taking for granted ..IT'S HOT! But when sitting at a stop light, my temp gauge will rise over half way, sometimes up to 3/4. Will sometimes cool down as the bike starts moving, but generally stays pretty much at half way or just above. Is this normal? Or should I start going through the cooling system? Coolant looks good and clean, hoses look good also. Thanks for any advice. Tbro

My bike runs a lot cooler since I got my valves adjusted (used to ping also). My bike used to run near the "H" but now is about 2/3rds the way over in hot weather but normally just past the halfway mark once fully warmed up and in temps >70F. Yes, quite normal. Unless the needle hits the red, you're fine. When it gets hotter, you may want to reduce your antifreeze to distilled water ratio to 80% water - 20% antifreeze, that gives pretty much all the anti-boil protection of antifreeze while giving you 60% more cooling capacity than the normal 50-50 mix. That can be significant at slow speeds on a hot day. Just remember to change it back out to a 50-50 mix in the fall to renew the anti-corrosion protection provided by the antifreeze. -E

Yep my bike runs at about 1/4 on the scale most of the time then in summer it's usually straight up to just past center.
