Recently I posted the lista's about ammo box saddlebags & got some really good feedback.....Thanks.After researching the idea even more I decided to not do the genuine ammo boxes (too heavy) but am really considering the Mermite food container boxes. My problem here is they are not found locally, you don't really know the condition of them through the mail, shipping is high and after looking at the Adventure rider posts it appears that a lot of work goes into them to get them ready. After several "ammo box" or related internet searches I tried "dry box" in the search & found MTM brand dry cases. They are similar to Ammo boxes but are plastic. They latch similarly, have an o-ring seal, holes for padlocks to lock.Different colors available including Olive green. Some things that make them different are that they have a storage compartment on top of lid for easy access to frequently used small items. They also have a removable tray inside the box.Shoulder strap for carrying the boxes
and some of them have padded lids that is used as a seat.I would like to know if anybody has used these boxes & if so do they work good? P.S. very affordable.

ammo box follow - up
A few things come to mind: if that handy little top compartment
doesn't latch securely it could pop open so you might need a bungee
across the top for rough roads; hard to say for sure from the pics,
but the boxes look tapered which could lead to mounting problems; if
they're that inexpensive, they might not be rugged enough for a lot
of bouncing around, sorta depends on your mounting method and where
you're going to ride. I'd go with Storm or Pelican cases myself, but
so far I'm sold on soft luggage.

sparky to staintune details
The sparky spark arrestor comes in different configarations. Fred
got me the 2 & 1/8 " inside diameter unit. The tail pipe on the
muffler is 2" outside dia. Take a small grinder or cut off wheel
and grind off the tulip lip on the end. I made a aluminum adaptor
that is 2&1/8" ouside dia by 2" inside dia. I made it 3/4" wide, the
sparky is over 1&1/4" long on the muffler end. I pushed the adapter
up into the sparky and cut off the extra material. Then I drilled
and tapped three holes around the perimeter of the sparky. I had to
use a shank mounted flapper wheel an a die grinder to hone the
inside to fit the muffler as the tailpipe is out of round .025-.030
thousands. After I got the sparky onto the tailpipe I ran the tap
drill down thru the tailpipe and tapped the tailpipe also, which
helps to lock the entire unit together. I used a sae 1/4x20 tap as
I think the larger threads hold better in aluminum , # 7 tap drill
size. I have had trouble getting the bolts out to add steel wool to
buffer the sound and will remove the end threads that protrude into
the tailpipe the next time I am in there. This fits tight enough
that I have to heat the aluminum with a torch to get it off the
tailpipe, no rattles. You will love the 685 from schnitz, more
power and less vibration. I forgot to add on my original post, I am
using a 145 main jet with the clip third from the top on a DynoJet
needle, and am at 1800 feet elevation. This is the first time the
plug has been something other than black since I put in the DynoJet
kit and tried using their guidelines, It is now a medium grey. It
was a tad rich at 6-7K feet in the mountains, but I may have had to
much steel wool in the pipe at the time. Let me know if you need an
adaptor made. Best, Tom.
