Hi everybody,
This is my first post.
Picked up lots of great tips, thanks.
Specs from buykawasaki.com have the 2001
at 48 hp@6500 and 5.6 Kg-M (40.5 ft-lbs)@5500.
I am not sure if these are correct but max torque
at 2750 seems real low from a seat of the pants
measure. Bike does not have much pull until at least
3000 rpm. How does this sound to you guys?
Cheers, Mike A15

Michael,
Welcome to the list.
Kawasaki specifies crankshaft numbers not rear wheel numbers. Real numbers at the rear wheel are:
Bhp@rpm: 36.14@7000
Torque@rpm: 32.8@5000
RPM Bhp Torque
3500 20.09 30.15
4000 23.32 30.62
4500 27.50 32.09
5000 31.26 32.84
5500 34.12 32.58
6000 35.98 31.49
6500 36.13 29.19
7000 36.14 27.11
7500 33.69 23.59
8000 29.63 19.45

Hi Mike,
Check out the archives if you are interested in HP/torque output from a
stock A13 and an A13 with a pipe and jet kit installed. I posted before and
after dyno run curves a year or so ago.

My only regret about winter riding in NYC, is that there are a lot of
cleared roads before you get to ice and snow- too many road miles to run
studs, and then when you get to the rough stuff, regular tires won't cut
it.
Can't you ice-race all winter long anyway?

Well Mike, I might be called a yank, currently stationed Northern
Illinois at Great Lakes, but my home is the U.P. in which I will be
back permanently in little over 5 months.
As for snow drifts, I remember them quite well, also remember
undigging vehicles from them to get to work.
As for the best shovel... hummm I have a few straight handles, even
one of them curved handle back friendly type ( better shovel ), but
the best shovel I have happens to be made by White Outdoors, it has a
8 HP engine, electric chute control, finger controlled steering on
the grips, electric start, halogen headlight and likes to chew up
them snow drifts.
Sorry, im getting too old to be shoveling that crap all the time.
Also looking at a map, Nova Scotia might actually be south of my
place. Har Har Har does that make you a redneck eh ?
(Could'nt resist)

Your point about dry pavement/ ice-snow is right on the money. We get a mix of dry pavement on the main roads and ice on the side streets and intersections. Dry roads would be hard on studs and icy roads deadly without them. 2. Local-yokel drivers who got thier licenses out of Kellogg's Corn Flakes boxes. There are enough winter time fender benders around here without throwing a motorcycle into the mix! 3. It gets COLD up here! -3 C is hard on the KLR, I figure -30 C would be impossible. In order to get cars and trucks to run we need block heaters etc., cold starting the KLR would be a bitch I think. I've been tempted to try winter biking a few times but for now I'll stick with my snowmobile and 4x4 for winter time. Cheers Steve A11
