vibration question
I recently replaced my broken dohicky with eagle mikes upgraded doo and torsion spring. My question is,At about 3800 rpms there is a vibration.Anything above or below this rpm, it seems to smooth out. Is this normal or something of concern? Something I forgot to mention was, It has always done this. Before and after doo replacement.

<><><><><><><> <><><><><><><> Wayne, Did you check the balancer shafts to make sure they were in time? I suppose the vibration could be caused by being just one tooth off on one shaft. As I recall you may need to turn the crank up to 9 revolutions (counterclockwise) to get the balancer shaft marks and the mark on the crank to all line up. vibration question
Wayne,
This happened on my bike. The broken doo caused too much slack in the
chain and everything was out of time. I'm just glad it didn't kill my bike.

Actually, it's nine revolutions of the chain to get the marks to line up again. Seventy links in the chain, eighteen teeth on the sprockets, right? Nine crank rev's gives 162 links, right. Least common multiple would be 630 chain links, 35 crank revolutions, or 9 chain rev's. and no coffee yet......... Check your drive chain and sprockets? If the only thing you changed was the balancer parts, and the balancer chain and weights are in time, it could be something showing up in the final drive system. Even tires can do something like this, if the vibration shows up mostly at a certain speed. Broken balancer springs and levers have also been known to change cam timing. all the best, Mike> > On Fri, 28 Dec 2007 05:48:06 -0800 (PST) Wayne Blackburn > writes: > > I recently replaced my broken dohicky with eagle mikes upgraded doo > > and torsion spring. How do you find cheap gas? Easy, fill up on expensive stuff, you'll find the cheap stuff shortly afterwards Mick.

Yeah, Jeff,
I KNEW it took more than 9 revolutions of the crank to get the
balancer marks to line up on my bike as you kept predicting dire
results because of the way I was pulling the wrench GRIN!

<><><><><><><> <><><><><><><> Hugh, Those dire results were more like a heart attack than a mechanical issue. : ) Hope the weather has warmed a bit for you. Yesterday sounded like you were working in an ice box. I've been in the shop on the RT project with the temp a nice cozy 66 degrees.
