For those of you who are interested there are four more of the first
batch of coolant bypasses available. The cost is 120 dollars plus
10 dollars shipping. I have started negotiating with the machine
shop on the price of the next batch of bypasses. When they are ready
I will let you know what the new price will be. I hope it will be
only a small amount more. The follow is a letter I received about
the bypass.
Hi Martin,
I've tested the bypass on two cold mornings now, I need to put a
thermometer on the bike to validate temp but based on the size of
goose bumps, I'd say it's been the upper 40s in the valley,
especially at the river crossing. The bypass system is working
fantastic! In just 2.2 miles, the needle is just left of center and
stays consistently there. I may be hallucinating but I believe I have
more throttle response in the morning then before as well?
Also, on the flipside, when I left work last night, the needle didn't
go past the half-way point and it was definitely warm (about 6pm),
especially by CamelRock, and I was pushing it (75mph). The bike would
normally be at the two-thirds position and the fan would be on. I
don't know if this has to do with the bypass allowing a better flow
with the larger thermostat or if it's from the antifreeze change to a
70:30 ratio? Maybe both but I'm pleased that I'm running cooler now
in the late afternoon and warmer in the morning.
Anyway, I'm really-really pleased with this mod. Have you heard from
any of the others about purchasing it? Everyone should have this on
their bike.
Thanks,
Doug

vendor friday - coolant bypass system
Have you looked at having the parts made someplace like emachineshop? then people could simply order the parts directly from them and you would not have the hassle of dealing with orders.

vendor friday - coolant bypass system
Z, To get the small size I had to do some complex machining with
tight tolerances. One part is made with a 4 axis mill-Turning center.
Of the first twenty 4 had to be reworked and one was scraped. Also I
had to use a O-ring that is not readily available. To purchase all of
the internal parts separately would be very expensive. Currently I
spend one hour on each system to measure, clean up, and assemble. I
feel that it would be difficult for someone who has not worked with
these to assemble it. Also I used a friend "card" to get the
machining done so cheep. They are making very little on these parts.
