List, Beware of Fred at Arrowhead, I have ordered from him 3 times and the same thing has happened. I called him Monday to get a couple valve shims, his reply was "I will send them out in the morning and you will get them on Thursday". As usual, they came a day early, and the parts are the correct ones! This is one reason I deal with him and not the Kaw shop 1 1/2 miles down the road. crazy soon to be the screw barron of the southwest dave Thanks Fred _______________________________________________________ Get 100% FREE Internet Access powered by Excite Visit http://freelane.excite.com/freeisp

Recently, a friend bought several items from Fred Hink at Arrowhead Motorsports, then tried to order more items but was met with a not-so- good attitude and worse customer service. Here is a quote he asked me to post: "Warning about Arrowhead Motorsports (Fred Hink): I ordered $420 of parts from Fred Hink on September 6, the items were back-ordered for 2-3 weeks. Fred charged my credit card on September 6! I canceled the order, and Fred refunded all but 5% as a "credit card processing fee." I have reported this to my credit card company, and I am currently disputing the 5%, but I decided that all KLR owners should know about Fred's methods of "business." Anyone else have similar service or lack of?

You must be new to the list. Fred has served us KLR owners well for a long time. Why should Fred have to "eat" the processing fee for your cancellation? Next time ask up front if items are in stock.

Extremely out of character for Fred. I'd love to hear it straight from your friend, or have you put your name on the post when you slam someone in a public forum. Devon trsrdr wrote:

Like many here, I've dealt with Fred and found him to be up-front about everything. I ordered my Givi boxes through Fred and they were back-ordered for quite a while, he informed me of that fact and I had no problem with it. To be honest I don't remember if my credit card was charged up-front or not. OTOH, it is pretty common practice for internet and catalog retailers to withhold charges on out-of-stock items until the items are shipped. I might be a little upset if I dealt with a merchant who didn't make it clear that they didn't adhere to that standard. I don't know the specifics of the deal, but here's how I look at it. If the guy orders parts he should be informed of the fact that they are back-ordered *before* the order from the supplier is placed. If he confirms the order even though it's back ordered then it's a go. At this point Fred is out his cost for the parts so if the guy backs out, he should expect to get charged at least a stocking-fee or processing-fee or something of the sort. If, however, the card is charged the parts are ordered and *then* the guy is informed they're back-ordered for however many weeks/months then he's got 'cause to be a little bit upset when he's hit with a fee for cancelling. Doubt I'd go squawking about it to every internet list I'm on though... -Trevor

Fred has given me much better service than my dealer. Nuff said. Criswell Devon Jarvis wrote:

For those of you that have been on the list long enough; I think Fred, even put out a tear for Jennifer when she was killed by a list member. I'm not going to say how much stuff I've ordered from Fred in case my wife ever finds the "Sent" folder, (Grinning), but it's a triple digit figure. I think there may have been a back order of about a week once, but I don't really remember. Obviously, not having had a back-order situation with Fred, I don't have any input concerning an early charging of a credit card. Fred's prices may be slightly higher on some stuff - the only thing I actually checked prices on was fork boots. I believe, though, that for an extra couple dollars I'm getting service from a reputable vendor that I can trust. And, I don't have to fool around trying to get the correct part numbers, and then hope I get the right thing; I Email Fred, tell him what I want, and the job is done. To be honest, a number of times I've told Fred that I wanted to do this or that, and to just send me the best part for the job. (Front & rear brake pads are a good example of that.) I would guess that only from the "list vendors" such as Fred, Jake, Chris Krok, etc., etc., can you successfully get away with something like that... I would wonder if your friend told you the whole story, or if he misunderstood the situation? You are not welcome to use this forum to lodge negative complaints about vendors without signing your name and including your friend's name. The list of accolades about Fred's service is nearly endless. Kurt Simpson List administrator

It's always been a pleasure dealing with Arrowhead Motorsports. I've ordered a bunch of stuff from Fred on three different occasions. This last one, I called and chatted with him on the phone regarding a particular product. He was gracious, kind, and helpful. I placed the order and he made sure it was processed and sent the next day. This was all on his last day before vacation. Fred is a great guy who runs a respectable outfit. I have nothing but good things to say about them. For the record, all three times my order was timely and correct, but I generally buy from a place that has the item I'm looking for in-stock. Fred probably kept the 5% to cover his expenses. What's wrong with that? -Rick
