1985 My family climbed Mt. Katahdin on foot. There is no road past the camp grounds. The hike from there is about 7 hours round trip and I don't ever want to do that again. BTW the view was fantastic...but the spring on top was dry. We carried 3-4 gallons of water for eight people - 4 adults, 4 children over age 10 - and went dry by the time we got to the top. On the way down we jumped into the first stream we came to. BTW... I hope to circle Maine this late summer or early fall. Capt. Bob in Durham, CT. Not do Katahdin again? I've done it three times -- and can't wait for my next change. Washington was a boring hike in comparison, especially knowing there were people just *driving* to the top. Beartooth Pass in Wyoming/Montana -- that's the mountain roads you want to take. Cal.

I'm beginning to think that way. Last Fall, the Kaw dealer in Batesville, AR installed a tire backwards on my voyager rim.. I didn't notice it until I tried to put it back on the bike, 50 miles away. don
