I think I qualify under the "heavier folk" description, I weigh 260. I have tried 15wt fork oil with the original springs, and 10wt, ATF and 7 wt fork oil with the Progressive springs. I like the 7 wt best. The 7 wt allows the long travel suspension to soak up all those bumps in the corners instead of transmitting shocks through the suspension and bars that upsets the bike. I find the 10 wt to be too harsh. I don't know about you guys, but the roads around here seem to be getting worse, not better. It seems that most corners are bumpy, not smooth. I really prefer the 7 wt. I am an aggressive street rider, and about average dirt rider. I'll second Paul's advice. I've tried lots of different oil on the KLR, with the progressive springs. I really like the 7wt the best. It works better on and (especially) offroad, allowing the forks to react quickly and damp out all the jitters, while still dealing with the big hits OK (for a KLR). I also have a fork brace. The heavier oils were just too harsh, and didn't allow the suspension to react quickly enough. Taking Rich Desmonds advice, I put 15wt in my wee-strom to go with a fork brace and sonic springs. But I think I'll back down to 10wt, because it just seems too harsh. PS: I weigh 165 lbs. More in my gear. But I used to be 250 and even then I liked the lighter oil more. klr tool kit
I am trying to complete my tool kit and spare parts for the summer. I
noticed that the stock tool kit has 19 and 24 mm wrenches which appear
to be for the wheels. The front axle bolt has a 22 mm nut. What am I
missing? Did KHI pack the wrong wrench?
