wiring problem?

Post by bruhed313nm » Sun May 13, 2007 10:55 pm

OK, I'm new to the list. Bought my old 92 KLR back but it has a problem. It only has 17K miles on it, but has been sitting for the last 5 years in a horse trailer. Here goes. 1. Machine running at idle, nandlebars straight ahead. 2. Turn off ignition, ....motor keeps running. 3. Move handlebars to left....motor quits. I removed ignition and wiring connections appear to be tight. Not sure where to go from here. ?? where do I start looking? Anybody else have this problem?

<><><><><><><><><><> <><><><><><><><><><> Bruce, This would be a good one for Norm to step in on if he was still on the list. But to try to answer your questions... I don't have this problem. Mine was never in a horse trailer for 5 years that I know of. : ) I think I'd look at the ignition switch to see if it's got gunk in it. Next I'd probably pull the tank or fairing so I could examine the wiring. Sounds like it could be wiring issue but not sure where that would be exactly and I haven't really thought about it or looked at a wiring diagram. I'd probably check the kill switch on the right controls and see if it works. I'd probably do a good visual inspection before messing around with a test light or multimeter. But with electrickery you really need a testing device to see where it's going or not going.
