dogs on bikes
Does anyone have any ideas about protecting a dogs ears and eyes,
assuming it isn't in the front spot? I realize that if the dog is
driving, there might be a problem here.
I think mine would appreciate the joys of motorcycling, but she
won't be allowed to take any risks with her ears/eyes.
Just another idle thought.

Aerostich sells goggles for dogs called "Doggles". www.aerostich.com
Good luck getting earplugs in the dog though.

Actually, no problem if the dog is driving. The fairing should protect it enough. Just don't have the dog as a passenger, in the back.
hehehe.

Buster has a couple hundred miles on his Doggles and they work pretty
well. He refuses to wear them when not on the bike. Buster rides on
the tank so he is protected when he wants by the mid-sized windscreen I
installed. I put the new screen on because he didn't like the air
hitting him so hard at highway speeds. I hadn't thought about his ears
but lot's of humans ride with ears uncovered, without a wind screen,
and without a natural ear flap for protection purposes, and they do OK
so....?

If you crashed, what do you use to protect your loving dog?

I guess I am of two minds about this phenomenon. On the one hand, I agree that you are putting your dog at risk. it also strikes me that a lot of the folks who ride with their pets (dogs, cockatoos, whatever) are doing it mostly for the attention it gets them. OTOH, my boxer/lab mutt Chauncey is a pretty good traveling companion. I always enjoy our road trips with just him and me in the van, and a couple of bikes on the trailer. If my sidecar rig were really roadworthy, instead of a novelty item, I might try to get him to ride in it, just because he is such good company.> > Sorry, just had to chime in. >

I joined a group ride on a trip to No. CA a few years ago and noticed
one of the riders had a dog riding in what looked like a tank bag.
Initially I got really uptight about this also. Luckily I went over
and talked to the guy and asked him about how he kept the dog safe.
Turns out it wasn't a tank bag, it was purpose built to carry a dog.
The bag was sturdy and gave the dog a nice place to sit, while still
allowing him freedom to look at whatever he wanted. It incorporating
a harness that went around the dog's shoulders/chest to ensure he
didn't go anywhere. I was still concerned a little bit until I
watched the dog as they got ready to go. The dog *loved* riding in
that thing. He jumped up, climed into the tank/dog bag by himself
and waited for the rider to put on the harness and Doggles. Off they
went together, both in their protective gear and both having a great
time.

And people who can't type or spell shouldn't be allowed use mailing lists or the internets. Sorry, just had to chime in with another ridiculous argument.> On May 11, 2007, at 11:33 AM, Larry W Menefee wrote: > > > If you are riding around with a dog on your motorcycle you should > > not be aloud to own either. > > > > Sorry, just had to chime in. > >

AGREED,Pets are like kids and you want them with you. I have to admite that my thoughts are selfesh...If you are in your car and a dog or child is craling around on your lap (or your on your cell phone) you are not looking out for me on my motorcycle.Same thing if the dog (or small child on the gas tank) is on your motorcycle you are not at 100% and looking out for me on my motorcycle.I don`t want to die so that someone can look "cool". Dog in sidecar=COOL Dog on gastank=STUPID Sorry for the rant....my last post on the subject. --------------------------------- Get your own web address. Have a HUGE year through Yahoo!
