I use the Africka or how ever it's spelt which I got from Fred about a year ago. Like it, never been in the way yet but I don't do DRZ400 things with my KLR650. As for getting it on the stand. I just get my foot holding it down a bit and grab the left hand grip and seat grip and heave backwards jaming the the stand down while the bike is going backwards. Pops right up there. Heck I'm 61 and can do it so younger people should not have a problem. As for water, get some dilectric grease and do every connection and plug in. I moved my electrics to under what used to be the Sidestand switch and changed all to automotive blade type fuses so water gets to them much fast than when under the seat. Have been in water over the brake dick a bit with no problems so far as long as I'm going slow. Did stall it out before putting the grease all over though and had to push about 30 yards in crouch deep muddy water a few months back. Andy in Louisiana

Looking for a centerstand for my new KLR650 2006. I've found two so far with a big difference in price one at $160 and $90. Any ideas? Are some better then others in "dirt"?

Don't know about the dirt issue, but the main problem people report about all of them is that it is rather hard to get the bike up on to the stand. -- Doug Herr doug@...

A ridiing buddy of mine has just thrown his centerstand into the garbage .... I told him to stick it on Ebay, but he wouldn't. Why ? Seems that the center stand (on some bikes) puts extra stress on the bolts that go through the footpeg holes, and causes them to strip out. Only last week I was riding with a group of 6 KLR's and this very thing happened to another rider out on the trail. While standing on the pegs his left footpeg striped the bolts. I now know of three different people this has happened to. Be interesting to see if this is more common than we know about ? Dave Oregon

Mine comes from Fred, which ever one he was selling when I wanted one a year or so back. Africa I think or something like that. Have never had a problem with it, have Grade 8 bolts in it. But have not hit anything at speed with it but have slid over logs and such with no problems. I guess if I did have a problem I'd weld the centerstand brackets to the bike and then the footpeg brackets ot the centerstand. As for getting the bike on the center stand, most times I just lean my bike way over on the side stand and put the centerstand down and just rock the bike on the stand from the side. Much easier than pulling the bike on the stand. I do 99% of my riding alone and when roaming south louisiana marshlands many times your not gonna find anything with in walking distance to prop your bike up on to change out a front flat or rear flat. you just have to lay it down on the ground and go to work in it. But lucky me as I've been able to fix my last two flats without removing the wheel from the bike. '43 Andy in Louisiana '00 KLR650 '02 R1150GSA

Great for tire changing and service, reduces your ground clearance a bit. Your riding style and terrain will determine what is best for you. Capt. Bob in Durham, CT. One of the best mods I've done. I'm slightly anal about cleaning/lubing my chain. It makes chain maint sooooo much easier. And easier to me means more often. Also makes loading up the bike with gear much easier due to a good straight-up stable platform. The slight loss in clearance is vastly offset by the usefulness. Glenn 03 KLR650A17

This is a big one for me. The footpeg bolts are already a weak point on the bike -- some of us have torn them out repeatedly, and there is not a lot of metal back there to retap the threads.
