I use one on my KLR. I like it but mainly for looks and rain protection. I can't say it makes any difference one way or the other in highway crosswinds. I was never bothered by them in the first place. I firmly believe the bike will make it's own corrections for cross winds. I believe the instability comes from us humans trying to compensate and we over correct rather than help the situation. Once upon a ride in west tesas. I had a hard wind 20~30mph gusts coming from my left. When ever I went under an overpass the wind would stop. Out the other side and back in the wind again. (don't try this at home kids, controld condition with trained test rider, stoopid is as stoopid duz, standard disclaimer etc) To test my theory I locked down the vista cruize and put my hands on the tank about 200 yards from an overpass. The bike was leaned to the left to compensate for the side forces. As I started under the overpass my wheels were about a foot to the right of the dotted white line. As soon as the wind stopped the bike righted itself and the wheel track was about 8" from the dotted line. Passing through the underpass and back into the side wind found the wheels once again about a foot from the dotted line. I gotta also add I didn't have the nads to do it the first time. The side winds were very strong and as soon as the wind went away the bike would right itself almost violently. Was a unique test day. Little traffic, hard wind and I-20 to myself. To answer the question, I like my low fender and it works pretty well. Dan / \

Still find it easier to just give drag on the windward side of the bike. If wind is hitting from your right side: Spread your right leg out away from tank and left leg into the tank tight, this will "catch" wind and compensate for the side effect winds. Also if you move your arms around, (each persons build is different) but by raising your elbow on the windward side also, again catches wind of course tuck the other side to make it flow air smoother. Of course if you feel its apparent to let go of the bars and hold onto the gas tank... Well at least it leaves the chance for spare parts not distroyed in the crash. ;-) Dooden

How does one select the right UFO Superbike fender to mount low on the KLR 650. There are plenty of models available on the market. Is there a particular model number? Are they paintable to match the factory Kawasaki colors? Thanks, Richard

I have one on my A16. I also had one on my A7. I like them, but if I were going to ride the Conti-Divide or something like that, I'd put the stock fender back on. I think that with the low fender and having the bike lowered 1.5", it handles VERY well and I have little problem with cross-winds or truck wind issues. Enjoy. (We're supposed to get another 6" or more of snow starting tomorrow.. THIS SUCKS!! ) Ron in MN

Did you have trouble putting yours on? I worked at it for a couple of hours and put it aside for a later time. I had just put on a new set of fork boots, and I think they are made of a little thicker material than the originals. Anyway, I could get the front bolt of the UFO fender bracket started, but the back bolt wasn't long enough to get it started. I figured I would get a little longer bolt for the back end of the bracket so I could get it started and then cut the excess off after I get both bolts properly tightened. Joe Grove Jonesboro, AR

Hi Dail, Perhaps your frustration is not so much product induced, but frustration induced by installation error, as numerous people have been very pleased with their own application. (shrug) Sometimes the farkle we install is just farkle, not a measurable improvement for 'all applications.' The center stand is another application where the various expectations are varied, due to its intended use/abuse. revmaaatin.

(shrug) maybe, Just maybe my standards are higher, (SHRUG)!! I'm not frustated, just not satafied with a piece of crap fender. it seems to be twisted, the only way to get it centered over the tire is to mount one side higher than the other... I'll mount it and post a picture so you can see why I call it "a piece of crap"
