Ok, I know that no one on this list has an opinion, but maybe someone will speak up (G). My soon to be put back together 92 has the stainless steel oil filter, and a K&N air filter- both of which apparently don't actually filter real well, even if you never have to replace them. Does anyone greatly disagree, or know of any reason to stick with these filters. Or vice-versa- do I really need to get back to regular filters? I hope to get much more than 37,000 miles out of the rebuilt engine. Does anyone want to buy these filters? Facts, opinions, and hot air will all be duly considered. Thanks, Barry Spice COG 3620 AMA 425629 99 Kawasaki Concours- "The Purple Meanie" 51+k 92 Kawasaki KLR 650 Catonsville, Md

Oh - here we go again... I for one "greatly" disagree, but since you seem to have your mind already made up, I will gladly dispose of those filters for you. ;-) Fred http://www.arrowheadmotorsports.com http://www.angelfire.com/ut/moab/cmc.html

I use the stainless steel oil filter. No plan to change. Just ride the damn thing. Don't worry, be happy. -- Doug Herr doug@...

Off road the K&N does not do as good a job as a twin-density foam filter of keeping out the finer dust. Its been my own experience that if someone uses a K&N off road, when they pull the filter to clean it they will find some dust has gotten past the filter and is resting on the sides of the air horn. Some have questioned the reasoning for a stainless steel oil filter. I like the idea of being able to do an oil change without having to throw away a filter. Every few years I take my used oil to a recycle center. My city provides this service for free. I like the non varying nature of the filtration of the SS filter. I don't work all that hard to get the thing fully clean at change time, just spray some WD-40 on it and then blow out and bang out the gunk, then let it sit a while while the bike is still dripping. Not trying to talk anybody into using them, just explaining some of my reasoning. -- Doug Herr doug@...

Barry, Ya asked for an opinion so here's mine. : ) For the cost of the stainless oil filter, $70 or so isn't it? I think you could buy about 35 Emgo filters. Saves the time of cleaning the filter and I think they're pretty good filters. So I go with the Emgo filter. Maybe the stainless filter works but I think it's over kill. For the air filter. I don't like K&N filters. Period. I don't have any tests or proof about performance but I don't like them. I think they pass dirt and I think it's worse when they first get serviced and less after they've been used a bit. But if they pass dirt even once its too much. I think they don't work well protecting the innards of the engine. I use a No-Toil filter and the No-Toil filter maintenance products. They are easy to use and environmentally friendly. No petroleum products involved and petroleum products won't clean up No-Toil filter oil or rim grease. I think they do work and I don't have any tests or proof about that either. But I do have a bit of experience using one in a KLR and a few friends are using them in their KLRs too. And none of us ever find any dirt or dust past the air filter. So for me that makes them good. So my opinion is you should use Emgo oil filters and a No-Toil air filter serviced with No-Toil filter maintenance products. But since you already have a stainless oil filter why stop using it? : ) If you go the No-Toil route you can get the No-Toil filter maintenance products (filter oil, rim grease and cleaner) under the No-Toil label or under the Honda or Kawasaki wrapper. Same stuff but a different label. Best, Jeff Saline ABC # 4412 South Dakota Airmarshal Airheads Beemer Club www.airheads.org The Beautiful Black Hills of South Dakota 75 R90/6, 03 KLR650, 79 R100RT

Yahoo! has implemented a Spam Filter and some messages are being rejected into a folder for Spam. I have no control over this filter and some address's are prone to being marked as spam, mine included. I'm not sure what the criteria is for being marked as spam but using a URL in your message seems to trigger this filter. So sorry Jeff, Ron and others for delays in your posts. I have to approve all messages that are in the Spam folder and sometimes it might take a day or two before I get the time to do that. vendor friday - accessory fuse kit and light kit with off-road light

Post by dsmeclipse » Fri Jan 26, 2007 2:51 pm

Its that time of year to start getting ready for the riding season or you may have already started and notice it gets dark pretty early still. If that's the case then the Light kit I sell for the KLR is for you! The Light Kit is plug and play and includes easy to follow instructions. Check out my eBay auction number 180079357910 for more information and pictures. If you want to read a personal review check out message number 166257 for the review (Glad you are happy with the kit Ross). I am also selling a VERY easy to install accessory fuse kit for your electrical goodies. This kit will allow you to connect up to 3 (or more)electrical devices and they will be protected by mini blade fuses in waterproof enclosures. This clips onto the outside of the side stand safety cover for easy access (even though it wont be necessary). I have included pictures of this installed on the cover also so you can see what it will look like. If you are interested in finding out more information, please check out item # 180079357220 Ebay or click on the View seller's other items link on the eBay page. If you have any questions please feel free to let me know and don't forget to check out Arrowhead Motorsports, he has one of the kits I offer on his site also. Brian
