wanting to haul a bicycle on my klr 6540 2007 and upgrade questions.
bar vibrations
Hi there again. I wanted to first say thanks to everyone that
responded about my riding jacket question the other day.
Today's question is this: If I want to reduce the vibrations in my
bars, does a bar snake work? I was poking around the Arrowhead website
and saw that and bar end weights. Does anyone have a recommendation as
to which one would work better? Bar end weights look easier to
install, but do they do anything?
Thanks again for everyone's help,

bar vibrations
Matt,
I filled my bar with BB's and used a little glue at the ends to keep them from falling out. I also have gel grips. Between the BB's and the grips, the vibration is much more tolerable.
Regards,
Larry

<><><><><><><><> <><><><><><><><> Matt, When I had stock bars on my KLR I added a bunch of 7 1/2 lead shot to the inside of the bars. It seemed to work well. After the "incident", I replaced the bent stock bars with Renthal High Desert 666 bars. I didn't add shot to those bars and don't think they need it. So I suggest you consider adding some shot or changing your bars. I think cost of new bars was about $75 including shipping. Cost of the lead shot was less as I bought it a long time ago for reloading and it only takes a little bit. But if you have to buy a bag of lead shot it will probably cost close to $20 for a 25 lbs bag. I don't have any experience with a bar snake or bar end weights. I use Moose Barkbusters on my KLR and they seem to work well, they take a licking and keep on... I don't know how (or why) you'd install bar end weights if you are using bark busters. I have not used the bar end weights but did install
the bar snake to my original KLR650 bars. In addition
to this, I put on a new set of Progrip 714 grips and
have been happy ever since. I do not notice any
vibrations or hand numbness/fatigue as I did in the
past.

If you have'nt yet, cut them OEM grips off and put on a set of Gel
grips , it helps alot.
I have a set of 737's on mine, left side required safety wire in the
grooves, but I had the wire and the pliers made for twisting it, so
that was nothing.
Throttle grip comes off really easy, the other side, the factory
workers must get paid by the amount of glue they use in a day or
something... razor, s.s. scrubber, heat, sandpaper ect ect.. and now
kinda wish I would'nt have cleaned them off so much since the grips
were a bit loose upon install.
Alum. bars I bet would help alot also.
If you are taking the grips off, many have reported some luck with
lead shot/BB's and RTV/Silicon sealer as end plugs to keep the shot in
place.

If the bar snake reduces bar vibrations, do you think it will cut down
on the buzziness of the stock mirrors too?

bar vibrations
Within a month of buying my 03' KLR last spring, I added the Arrowhead bar end weights and gel grips and it was noticably smoother. Later I added Eagle 1" handle bar risers which understandably added a bit of vibration back but it was still better than stock. Later I did the Doo, and it was SOOO much smoother. (the stock lever and spring were both found to be broken at 17,000 miles) Since then, any time I feel the ride isn't as smooth as maybe it should be, I perform the balancer adjustment and it smooths right out. This seems to coincide nicely with my oil change intervals of around every 2,000-2,500 miles. I keep thinking someday I'll fill the handlebars wih shot or sand, but never seem to find the time and really don't want to add more weight up top if I can help it.

wanting to haul a bicycle on my klr 6540 2007 and upgrade questions.
Any ideas? Saw three on-line, wondering if anyone on here has made
one successfully or has experience with one.
BTW, The KLR is my first adult Motorcycle, bought a used 93 in the
this past summer, and recently bought a new 2007, black/grey. Loveing
them both.
The 93 is pretty beat, I think it has a doeicky proble, lots of
rattling in the motor. Bike starts great, and has lots of power,
however it stall itself out when ideling with a big clunk sound. It
has a super trap exhaust.
The 2007 is stock, compared to the 93 with the super trap it feels
like I am riding a lawnmower id it the exaust that makes so much
difference in the bikes jump?
What are the best exaust/jetting upgrades that you folks have had done.
thanks.
