Gets a little louder as the chain reaches the tension at which the adjuster will kick in, then calms down once the adjuster ratchet clicks out one more click. If you're concerned, pull off the adjuster spring cap and use a pointy object to push on the adjuster plunger. Sometimes they get stuck and won't adjust, thanks to those wonderful Kawasaki manufacturing tolerances. Chances are, you're just in that awkward area where it's about to click, but hasn't done so yet. Personally, I'd just ignore. KLR's make all sorts of weird noises and they're all pretty much harmless except for the grinding ones or the explosions.> its a 2001 with almost 13,000 on it and it started at the end of the

horn
I have the "Euro Horn" from klr650.com installed. It definitely
sounds more noticable than the original to me; it's sort of close to
the note and volume of the marine air horn I carry on my little boat
and is very sharp and clear (and loud). It wasn't hard to install and
doesn't require removal of the stock horn, so I'm sure it wouldn't be
hard to rig them both to sound together, which would probably sound
ugly enough to be extremely noticeable.
I was actually thinking
about buying another one and trying to see if I could alter the note
it produced somehow so I mount the 2nd one where the original was so I
could could get a true 'dual-note' air horn sound (any EEs on the
list?

funny ticking noise from motor
My 2006 KLR started to make some noise when I was on a poker run on
Vashon Island. By the time I got home in Shelton the noise was very
loud and the bike was vibrating more than usual. I pulled everything
apart to try to find the problem and had it all apart to the lower
case when I discovered what I thought was a bad crank bearing. The
bike was 18 days out of warranty and I wasn't going to call Cliff's
cycle center in Bremerton because the warranty was up. About a month
or so after the warranty was up, my friends convinced me to call them.
I did and they said to bring it in so they could check it out. A few
days later they called and told me the crank bearing spun in the case
and that Kawasaki would cover the bill to fix the whole thing. They
said they have never had that happen before. To me, engine noises out
of the norm might be something to look in to. Good luck with yours, I
got lucky.
Tim..............
PS: Cliff's Cycle Center has been great from purchasing the bike
to fixing this crank bearing problem.

Nice to hear about someone getting taken care of at the dealer.

Yes it is considering all the horror stories I've heard about some
dealerships. I would highly recommend Cliff's. I forgot to mention the
bike did have over 23,000 miles on it when the bearing spun.
Tim.............Shelton.
