stators & rear brakes
Hey,
Anybody got the skinny about hi-output generator stators? The folks over @ ADVrider had a thread running - apparently they organized and got a "group rate" on Electro-Sport 400 watt output stators. Google provided too much unrelated trash.
Also, there are numerous after-market front brake upgrades, but I've always thought that KLR's rear brake was weak. Any contacts for rear brake upgrades?
Thanks,
Mike

I've seen some comments about reliability issues with after-market stators, but not much that was substantive. I'd like to know more. Reading a bit on ADVrider, the guy from Electro-Sport seems awfully responsive. I might be inclined to go with their 300W model since it can use the stock rectifier and actually has higher output at low revs. I snoozed through my one EE class in school, but evidently there is a trade-off with stators such that higher total output means more drop-off at low RPM. One of the ADV-rider threads has a pretty graph that illustrates it. I had thought that the group buy was over. If it isn't, then I am tempted.> Anybody got the skinny about hi-output generator stators? CycleBrakes.com sells pads, steel lines, and wave rotors for the rear, but you might want to think twice about upgrading. On the street, if you've got good front brakes and are grabbing them hard, then the rear wheel is going to be unweighted anyway so it will be easy to lock up the rear accidentally. On a sportbike (read "badass front brakes"), I usually avoid the rear brake when on dry pavement. Find a stretch of empty road or an empty parking lot and try some panic stops. I found I could lock up the rear pretty easily, even while my bike was bone stock. Then again, some upgrades might improve feel, making it easier to use the rear without locking it up. Let us know what you decide and how it turns out. --mkb [Non-text portions of this message have been removed]> Also, there are numerous after-market front brake upgrades, but > I've always thought that KLR's rear brake was weak. stators & rear brakes
I bought the 400W stator & regulator/rectifier but haven't installed them yet.
The lower output at lower rpm's doesn't worry me - if I'm in stop and go traffic I don't need the electric clothing anyway. The break-even point is about 1800 rpm - anything above that and I've got more power (12 amps more at 3000 rpm!)
I, too, wondered about the reliability ... Greg Frazier took one of the 400W units around the world with no problems. That sounds okay to me.

stators & rear brakes
I used to sell Electrosport products but not any longer. I helped Electrosport bring this stator to market for the KLR. They have had a pretty bad track record dealing with customer complaints. I figured this was just "growing pains" and I would give them a chance to prove themselves. Of the 400w stators I sold, I had about a 50% failure rate. Calling Electrosport about these failures was very frustrating. First they deny that there was any problems with this stator and then they have been very slow to non-existant in dealing with my customers returns. I would be very careful believing anything that Electrosport tells you, as you can read anything on the internet. Contrary to what the "Electrodude" stated on the ADVrider site about why I decided to not sell their products any longer, it was after many phone calls to Electrosport dealing with my unhappy customers I decided that I had enough of them, their lies, their shoddy products and lack of customer support. I returned all their product to them and have waited almost a month for my money refunded. If I hadn't filed a complaint against them, I most likely would still be waiting on my refund.
So my advice to you about dealing with Electrosport is Buyer Beware.
