Thinking about the Craftsman motorcycle/atv jack. For $80 bucks sound
good! Any opinions and/or suggestions would be appreciated.

<><><><><><><> <><><><><><><> Yardman47, I bought one a few months ago. I have a stretch project in mind for it to make it a roll on motorcycle lift like Steve Rankin made. It looks like it would work pretty well for lifting the KLR as long as you are making sure you get the balance correct and don't pull too much off one end of the bike. I really like the rollers so you can move it with a load. They go on sale every few months so it may be worth waiting until it's on sale. I think I paid $59 for mine using a sale price and Craftsman Club member discount. I bought the Craftsman jack about two years ago and its still going
strong. Like Jeff said, they go on sale every other month (or so it
seems), so unless you have to do some maintenance *right now*, you
can save $15-20 with a little patience. Mine came with tiedowns; I
only use the front one to keep the bike from tipping backwards. I've
had everything but the engine off of my bike while it's been on the
stand and I'm sure it saved me quite a few sore backs.
The one negative I'll say is that one of the bolts that holds the
jack mechanism to the frame stripped out while I was assembling it.
I'm typically not an over-torquer, but it's possible that I was this
time--or the metal's just a bit soft. (Made in China, very low
price... hmmm...) Fortunately, that didn't affect the rest of it and
it's been working quite well.

You might get it a little cheaper if you can wait for it to go on sale, or you might find the functional equivalent at Sam's, Checker auto or some other parts seller. I've got one and like it. The construction is a little cobby, but it
works great for holding the KLR during tire changes. I shim the pads a
bit to keep things as stable as possible. Hard to beat for the price.

Bought one from Pep Boys (nice jack for bikes), $70-, less $20- rebate for total of $50- Saw the same one elsewhere for over $150-. Price may have gone up.
