about to give up on my klr250- anyone have a running klr250 engine

Hi, I've been pouring money and time into my '84 KLR250 since this May. Many weekends have been consumed by it. I still can't get the thing going. I think my cam chain is very stretched out, and my tensioner is bad, so I made a manual cam chain tensioner today. It worked, so I annealed my copper head gasket, and torqued all the bolts back down. I turned it over by hand, and I could hear the head gasket leaking. I had put my engine back together with that gasket (brand new), and then discovered my chain issues. It hasn't even run with the head gasket, and I'm out $25 for another head gasket, since I figured I could anneal this copper one after tearing the engine back apart to find a problem, but I couldn't. Anyway, I want to just ride this thing sometime this year (I never had it running), even if it is just down the driveway and back, and it breaks. Anyone have a running KLR250 engine they want to sell?
