I was getting to know my new KLR today and suddenly noticed a crack in the plastiic battery cover, which I thought I had done trying to figure out how to disasseble it all. I then found half the bottom circle gone and no plastic lying around so I think maybe the dealer guys broke it setting up the bike. This doesn't look too important - shoes battery water level and gives fuses an attachment spot (but rubber mounted, so maybe important).
