Maybe Four-Strokes only has replacement mounts ? My left side is broken also, but I had the mirrors set in only a few threads, and keep them kinda loose, when it snapped it only took out the top part, so I threaded it down all the way, next break I will need a replacement also. The cam should not have the slop of 1/4". Is the left camshaft cap on properly? There is a groove which should fit over a lip on the cam to prevent the side to side movement. It sounds like you did slip time. On reassembly did you have the timing chain tight on the front (exhaust) cam sprocket? The slop should be between the intake sprocket and the lower end.
