upgraded stator toasting cdis???

I can't comment on the ability of the CD ignition to handle the upgraded stator, but the regulator/rectifiers in the KLR are of the "load dumping" variety. This means the extra, unused voltage is shunted to ground. It is unlike a car, where the regulator controls the field current to the electromagnets (KLRs are permanent magnet). Because all these parts operate as a matched system, a stator putting out more voltage will increase the duty cycle of the R/R and may shorten its life. JRC A13 '01 LC1500
