garmin gps mount

After letting my brother ride my 01, I noticed he bent the shifter into the case. No problem, I thought and pulled it out enough to clear the case. But it still would not shift correctly. It now only shifts from neutral to 2nd and back to neutral. I'm assuming it's a bent or broken shifting fork and I'll have to pull the motor and split the cases. This may not be worth the cost. Would I be better off writing it off as a total loss and buy another used KLR, it's got 30,000 miles. Or, is there a simple fix? [Non-text portions of this message have been removed]

Check that the lever is still not bent downward far enough that it is preventing the shifter racheting mechanism from working. Best way I can describe it. I found this out after doing doohickey, I had the shifter one spline too low, and I could not shift past 2nd gear. Lever would bottom out on frame of bike. You can't see it in the pictures but the sheet metal backplane juts out to form a support for the antenna. The whole thing is solidly held in place on all sides, and padded in rubber from a recycled KLR inner tube. Would you believe the voltage regular, which appears to add over $70 to the price of the RAM mount, only costs $1.98 at Radio Shack?! The shake rattle and roll of 1,000 miles of gravel plus another 2,500 road miles, the vibes. from the KLR and the abrasive dust from the gravel road caused two problems 1. Your mount looks as if it has decent damping built in but you may want to think about a support for the antenna or an external antenna and leave the Quest unit down, they can be had for around $30 and are said to work better than the standard unit.
