Was it a Kawasaki cable ? I had a CC wear out on my A13 at 10k mikes,
and had lubed it 3 times , tryed to fit a termanator cable from motion
Pro, but the first one was too short, then the second one was too long,
and had no liner in it, was very disappointed in MPs service, went and
got a stock Kawasaki cable, and it fit like a charm... krdr

My clutch cable snapped on me the other day, this is the first time I
have had a clutch cable break ever. It was right where the ball fits
into the housing on the small arm on top of the right hand side of the
engine.
This ever happen to anyone else on the list ?
My bike is a 2000 model, its all covered by warranty, but never the
less, I'm still shocked that one of these cables actually snapped.
I do oil my cables and chain.

Not me, I oil my KLR clutch cable about twice a year, But i have heard Fred
has a super duper clutch cable, bigger and better than stock, I may have to
get one before my Mescan ride,

Yep. It's either #2 or #3 of things that will happen to a KLR-650. The shift lever breaking is #1, then it's a tossup between the clutch cable and the tweety exhaust. I've had all three. Come to think of it, you should have seen the wheelie as I was just revving up to take off from a stoplight in first when it snapped! I still have no idea how I got the thing back down without wrecking.> My clutch cable snapped on me the other day, this is the first time I > have had a clutch cable break ever. My clutch cable broke. The bottom end pulled off. Fortunately, I was only twenty miles away and headed for home, so I didn't have to stop.
So, does anybody make a replacement cable that is better than the original? I don't want to have to replace this thing every 55,000 miles. First there was the shifter, now this. What else could possibly go wrong?

You put 55,000mi on your '00 KLR650? I'm impressed, I've got 18,000 on
my '01 and I thought that was a lot of riding.
Cables are a wear'n'tear item, if you really meant to type 55,000mi then
pay for another stock cable, the bike will probably fall apart before
the next one breaks.
If you meant 5,500 mi, you either got a defective cable, or you need to
keep the pivots lubricated more. Also check for clean alignment where
the cable goes into the fittings on either end.

Thanks for the advice Devon and Marshall.
The hydraulic clutch idea is good, but I would have to order it. Think what
I'll do is call around to Kawasaki dealers to try to find one today. Maybe I
should buy two and zip tie them together like dirt bike riders do.
I've got a lunch scheduled for tomorrow, about 400 mile round trip. Those
guys will give me crap if I show up on a twin cylinder bike, so I'd like to
be able to find one today.
