klr sidecar ride report

Post by Vernon Wade » Sun Jun 25, 2006 2:15 pm

Some buddies and I took the KLR hacks out for their first real off road ride-they did very well, but I do need to do something about that cracked supretrapp muffler mount, the radiator shrouds, the fuse for the lights and the broken sidecar fender before the next outing... test ride report here http://adventuresidecar.com/KLR%20sidecar%20ride.htm

That looks like fun! What brand of sidecar is that? Where can I get one for my KLR? TIA Randy from Burbank --- Vernon Wade wrote:

That is home built-you can read the story here: http://adventuresidecar.com/ASSFLEET/assembling_the_fleet.htm Jay at Dauntless Motors makes mounts to fit a sidecar to the KLR. He sells the standard Ural sidecar and the Ural Crossbike sidecar, which is very similar to what I built. I believe he also makes his own platform moto x type sidecars too. He can mount any of these to your KLR or other big dualsport bike for you. More info about Dauntless Moters here: http://adventuresidecar.com/dauntlessdualsport.htm http://www.dauntlessmotors.com/dualsportsidecars.htm Vernon Wade adventuresidecar.com

klr sidecar ride report

Very interesting, Vernon. The combination seemed to do well off pavement. How does it do on a paved highway ? What's the top speed ? The klr forks aren't the stoutest; how do they handle the additional load ? Bogdan

klr sidecar ride report

Haven't done much riding with it yet, but it seems to handle the sidecar OK. No apparent problems with the forks. Indicated top speed without passenger around 75mph, somewhat less with passenger. Behaves fine on pavement, no wobbles, adequate brakes and accelleration. We did notice the front end washing out in corners on loose gravel/dirt, particularly with accelleration, but the tires are very worn. VW Bogdan Swider wrote:

I have no idea :-) I bought both bikes over the winter and, aside from putting sidecars on them, have changed very little. I was just putting a new fuse for the lights in the black one and noticed the front sprocket looks about as small as you could get away with and not kink the chain, but I haven't counted the teeth or anything....

I really like this side car idea for the KLR; but i would also like to be able to switch back and forth. How difficult is it to put on and take off? thanks -- Dan in Pasadena '05 KLR650 [Non-text portions of this message have been removed]

performance mods (airbox mods)?

Post by hal gainous » Mon Jun 26, 2006 6:39 pm

somewhere in all this groups info was someone who had the use of a (treadmill for motorcycles) and he tested a klr with a quite a few modifications one at a time. my understanding of his findings is that you can improve the performance a bit. but spending a lot of money may not be cost effective. by the way i have been a wanabee for a couple of months now i'm a bee. hal2002concourse 2006speedgreenklr staintune exhaust (loud) property value decreases every time i take a lap around the neighborhood

There are quite a few experienced people here that have been there and done that with many different kinds of mods. I definitely wouldn't hesitate to bounce it off of them first. The impression I've had when others have posted of their attempts to get more power out of the KLR650 was that generally the most anyone has done is to get very modest power gains at best and usually if not always at the loss of gas mileage or other significant trade offs. -Mike 1956 Mike 2006 KLR650 South Jersey --- Bryan Pershall wrote: > That means I need to experiment a little with things > thin, small mods here > and there and check my performance and my mileage > after each change. > > > > > > > Bryan Pershall > > BP Computer Consultants > > IT Consultant > > MCSE/Dell Certified > > > > > > _____ > > From: DSN_KLR650@yahoogroups.com > [mailto:DSN_KLR650@yahoogroups.com] On > Behalf Of Carlos Rigdon > Sent: Saturday, June 24, 2006 7:50 PM > To: Bryan Pershall > Cc: DSN_KLR650@yahoogroups.com > Subject: Re: [DSN_KLR650] Performance mods (Airbox > Mods)? > > > > The jet kit dropped mine from 58 to 50 a little more > power but not enough to > make up for 8 miles to the gallon > > On 6/24/06, Bryan Pershall com> wrote: > > > > That sucks, but I am wanting a little more power > > > > > > > > Bryan Pershall > > > > BP Computer Consultants > > > > IT Consultant > > > > MCSE/Dell Certified > > > > _____ > > > > From: DSN_KLR650@yahoogro > ups.com > [mailto: > > DSN_KLR650@yahoogro > ups.com > ] On > > Behalf Of Carlos Rigdon > > Sent: Saturday, June 24, 2006 6:41 PM > > To: Bryan Pershall > > Cc: DSN_KLR650@yahoogro > ups.com > > > Subject: Re: [DSN_KLR650] Performance mods (Airbox > Mods)? > > > > Yep you are going to kill your Mileage. low 40s to > high 30s would be my > > guess. > > > > On 6/24/06, Bryan Pershall > 40bpcccorp.com> > com> wrote: > > > > > > I am making some changes to my bike I ordered a > Big Gun Exhaust and a > > > K&N > > > Air filter and a Jet kit, My question is, has > any body done any of these > > > modifications to there bike, if so what was > there experience and > > > improvements, and losses.
