I finally got around to mounting/balancing the MAXXIS C6006s that I
bought about a month ago. I prepared by purchasing Jay's Famous
Video and watching it a few times. I also bought 3 tire irons, HD
Tubes, Wheel weights, from Fred. I thought this would give me
everything I needed to be successful in changing my tires (I was
wrong). I found that the Clymer manual was more valuable in giving
a newbie the information needed for this procedure. I had estimated
that I would be done in about 2-2.5 hours. The front tire actually
took about 4 hours after I pinched the tube (luckily I had a spare)
and the rear took anoth two hours for a solid 6 hours. The hardest
part to me was getting the tube into the tire while one bead was
seated on the rim. How much time does this usually take using just
tire irons?
Anyway, the C6006s are very nice compared to the stock which had
about 3700 miles on them. I took then new treads out for about a 15
mile test on back roads and through a sandy bog. They handled very
nicely.
After my experience this weekend, I decided to look for the proper
equipment for future tire changes. I wound up finding a nice deal
on Harborfreight.com. Their portable tire changer is on sale for
34.99, the motorcycle attachment is another 49.99, then I found a
coupon for $5 off and a free duffle bag. With shipping, the total
was $89.97.
I also broke in the Clymer with a bit of knuckle blood, so now it
looks like a real shop manual.

Both beads have to be off the rim, or you will have a hard time pulling the bead far enough away to get the tube in. You will also have the devil of a time getting the second bead back on if you can't push the first bead down in the well of the rim opposite where you are working. I usually figure half an hour plus however long it takes me to break the bead.

That's the strange part, the beads were not difficult to break at
all. Just a little pressure with my foot and they released easily.
I think I got some bad instructions on when to put the tube one...
I'll try it in the order you suugest next time.

Mine have the same problem 2 years ago...
On the left side, just in front of the tank, there is the main cable. Remove the protecting tape on it and there is a ''Y'' spline on one cable... That's the source of problem.
