[Norm Keller]

Having completed modification #42 brought me to thinking about what was my favourite modification. The Doohickey has to be the best one from the standpoint of peace of mind (original Doo' spring was broken). Following that would be the Utah engine guard, then the Givi trunk or maybe the AM-FM radio with linear amplifier and helmet speakers, or...HT panniers, or.....PIA 80/110 headlight bulb, or.... What are your favourites? Norm

My favorite modification is the KLR. The whole damn bike has modified my riding and my attitude forever. Instead of looking at a BMW RT as my next bike I'm thinking "rat bike". That would be after there are no more KLR's available though.

Well said Mike. I was trying to pick just one. Tough to do. I can't see not owning a klr either. The prog. fork spring sure made it ride better..If I can only pick one.. Ask me next month, i may have did a few more and have another favorite. Ever been sitting in stop and go highway traffic, looking over for an opening in the fence, knowing it wouldn't be a problem for KLR to just leave that mess. -Greg

Best modification: feet on pegs, ass planted in seat, throttle rotated 45 degrees counter-clockwise. Hi Norm: The balancer lever shouldn't be considered an option. It's a mechanical must and should be ranked above farkle items. Therefore, what I consider as nice but not absolutely necessary are listed below: The construction foam Tough Box panniers and HT - SU racks have proven extremely useful. I'd rate them as no. 1. The high windshield provided wind protection in the cold. That would be no. 2. The PD nerf provided me a place to mount the PIAA 510 driving lights and the highway footrests are nice. That would be no. 3. The GPS, fork brace and progressive springs all fall in behind. However, if I got lost somewhere and the GPS gets me out of a jackpot, it could easily slide into the no. 1 spot. Lowering the bike and cutting down the seat. Feet on the ground is important to me as much in a parking lot as on the trail - especially when the bike is loaded. Less ground clearance has never been an issue though the marks on my bash plate show that I do hit stuff. After that the petcock mod that netted me 1 1/4 gallon of reserve - though most people don't seem to be bothered by the puny reserve the way I was. I now could mention the lower first gear and the CF-30 shield but I better stop before I present all my mods. Bogdan
