I do a lot of freeway riding and I was wondering which windsheild has the best reduction in wind pressure on the rider?

I'm 6'4" and I have a Clearview +11" and it is great. It does put stress on the front brackets but it's OK. I wouldn't go off roading with it. The installation kit is good. I lost about 10 MPH top speed with the shield in place. JimmieA

From a viewpoint of cost-effectiveness, the Slipstreamer CF30 "universal" handlebar-mounted windshield costs under $50 (Google for mail-order vendors), and in my opinion gives me better protection than the $100+ KLR-specific windshields. In particular, compared to the Clearview +11, there is less buffeting and better routing of rain over my helmet. May require minor modifications of the mounting hardware to fit your desires. Does interfere with your ability to lean over the front of the bike, thus cannot be used offroad. -E

I am 6'3" but sit very tall (long torso / short legs). I bought the +11 and it actually put the terbulance (sp?) right into my face, making the noise & buffeting worse. I went back to a stock windshield, as at least that puts the noise/buffeting on my chest, which isn't as bad. I guess I need a +18! I use the clearview +9". I'm about 5'8". I rode all winter long on road and off. I think the windshield made it possible for me to handle winter cold riding at highway speeds. It does create turbulence which causes some wind noise but other than that no problem for me. I ride trails mostly over plenty of rough stuff and it seems to be holding up well under those conditions also. I'm undecided whether to switch back to the stock windshield for the summer. This will be my first summer on trails in about 35 years. Right now I'm still good with the +9. I'd say it generally reduces wind pressure on the rider at highway speeds. Other than some additional wind noise from turbulence near helmet level I've had no difficulties with my setup. -Mike

Hi Brad: I have an 06 and the 2003 Clymer manual. Get the manual. I've found no discrepancies. Suggest you search the archive for "tank bag". From what I've read here, the Wolfman is the way to go. Kawasaki's tank bag is worth a look though. You don't have to remove the bag to refuel. Nice. Folks in this group are amazingly resourceful and helpful. They are also very patient with newbie questions. Most questions you and I would ask have been asked many times before so read the FAQ and search the data base. Truly Incredible!
