oil window
Hey Group,
The oil level window on my '02 (6800 miles) in one 15 min ride went from
clear to having what looks like a stain on the interior.
Appropriate level of 10w40 oil with approx. 700kms in the machine. Due for
its regular change in 300kms.
Any info on the possible cause(s) would be much appreciated (ie. what did I
do??)
Thanks,
Andrew

The FAQ mentions that some bargain oils have reportedly stained the sight glass. What oil are you running? "Hi all i need the group wisom for some heating problem. Yesterday the
temperature gage went to the complet right realy near the H mark. Then goes back
midway and so. I stop for a few minutes and when i started the bike the
needle went in the normal position. Drive home with the needle near the H mard and
sometimes in the normal position. Last night i chek the fan circuit, drain
the coolant and chek the thermostat (on the stove) wife was not home...
Everything was ok, put it all back and fill with good coolant. Start the bike and
let it run a little bit to see if coolant was circulating in the radiator and
the cooling circuit. Everything ok. This morning on my way to work same
things happen. Could it be the thermostat going crazy?? Can the water pump
impeller is loose?? broken?? Any idea??"
I had symptoms like that where my temp gauge was reading erratically but the
bike wasn't actually overheating. The problem was a bad ground connection,
there is a little wiring harness ground connector near the battery negative
terminal and it was loose. Caused all sorts of weird behavior with the temp
gauge and tach.
