carl struthers memorial ride... boise, id
What I great day for a ride out her in Idaho!! The sun was shining and the
birds were singing...Only to be interrupted by the sound of a bunch (I want
to say 30 or more) bikes tooling down the road. There were 2 different rides
available. 2 DS rides and a road rout. I took the 2nd DS route. What an
awesome ride. One mishap when one rider dropped a BMW Dakkar in a really
technical section (I wasn't sure I would make it through the same section
2-up!)
We left out of Boise around 10:45 am and headed for Centerville, Placerville
and then to the campground just east out of Garden Valley for a great lunch
put on by the Christian Motorcycle Assoc. From there we kind of broke up and
about 8 of us headed cross country towards Banks. We stopped by an old
church that was built in the 30's and then meandered our way down to Sweet.
There we headed off cross country and eventually ended up in Eagle, Idaho.
Very little pavement.
I know my little ride report does the trip no justice but we had a blast!!

Sigh. It was beautiful in South Dakota today also. I spent most of the day at the airport on the ramp in the other dual sport vehicle. I changed 4 rotor blades, started the helo 12 times, had six landing, did 2 autorotation, BUT, I did a visual recon of a new area to ride while we were doing maintenance on the med-helo and scored a slight sunburn. revmaaatin.> birds were singing...

You know Rev, I'm having a bit of difficulty scraping up a whole lot of sympathy for you. Playing with helicopters is only a dream for most average Joes. Funny how even the best of jobs can begin to lose it's appeal. Kind of like too much of a good thing. And a sunburn too. Poor you. We had freaking snow up here just two days ago. I'd pay for a sunburn right about now. I may be wrong, but I get this funny feeling that you might just be trying to rub it in....real subtle like.
Take care.

Anyone who knew Carl and his great family would say thank you for the thought of a memorial ride in his honor. I'm sorry I could not have been there. I bought my first bike from Carl, a 1968 GT90 Kawasaki. Carl traded the gas tank out from the street model because I liked the blue tank better. I think I bought 6 or 8 bikes after that first one from him and always walked away feeling like we both got a good deal on the sale. It was an honor to have met Carl, Herb Uhl and Al Russell, these three shop owners did more to promote and influence motorcycling in the northwest then we may ever know. Thanks Carl.
