With all this talk of doohickeyness, I was wondering, what exactly does the doohickey adjust? (sorry for the ignorance in these important matters) Trying to determine if the KLX has the same weakness, and if so, can we KLXers use the same replacement parts that fit the KLR. Have recently acquired a 2002 KLR-650. Lots of fun and great transportation for the area of Kentucky that I am in. I am new to this website. What is the Doohickey that everyone keeps replacing?? Hollisclyde The Doohickey refers to the counter balancer adjuster. Also called the idler shaft lever. One component of the engine counter balancer system. For many it is still a debate, and God forbid any salesman should know anything about what they are selling. It's the same doohickey as a bike made in 87 I believe. My A-18 has 8k++ and I am getting a new doohickey for my birthday. I belive someone quoted a failure rate of 10-15%. Realize that that much metal failing in your motor at one time could in fact cause the drive train to lock at the worst time.
