usmc klr (gas) 650 and the mods, etc.

Post by revmaaatin » Mon Apr 03, 2006 9:36 pm

Hi list, The past few days of reading all the farkling doohicky conversation made me wonder, did the original USMC KLR (gas) 650 have an upgraded doohickey? Considering the upgrades on the USMC bike, who got to choose things like, the unique (at least to me) lever-protectors? I have not seen them in person, are they more effective than, say, Moose barkbusters? IT appears the military version my also reinforce the handle bar. Anybody know exactly what upgrades are included. From the F-1 site, it looks like tank, shock (I know about the shock, I have bought two of them), front cowl, engine protector, and some other things changed for the diesel as seen at http://www.angelfire.com/ut/moab/ Oddly enough, in the diesel pic, the rear brake master cylinder is unprotected. Just curious about the gas upgrades, specifically. Anybody out there ride the diesel bike yet? revmaaatin.

Hi List, Mark sent me a question about an earlier post concerning the cost of the F1 shock. I bought two to the OEM take-offs, not two of the new-ones. I should clarify that. Sorry. Martin Earl mjearl@... On Mon, 3 Apr 2006 22:42 , Mark Van Horn sent:

Haven't riden it, but seen'em back in Hawaii. *from what I've been told by the riders* All you said, and different foot-pegs, different rear-brake lever, and different shift lever. It's neat seeing a course get taught, and someone go down. They're taught NOT to take your hands off the grips durring the fall. 'Cause of those big bars upfront, that's the safest place for your limb. (they say anyway) Let your hand off, your arm's free, and when that happens it gets grabbed by stuff. 'Spossedly, there's a new engine (still off the KLR I belive) that's supposed to run off damn near anything. JP-8 fuel, kerosene (spelled wrong?), diesle. Come to think about it, I have NO clue how that could be (glow plug vs spark plug). I could have heard and now passed on bumb scoop. I wonder if they do any sub-frame bolt replacements? Now I'm curious... $0.02
