I have a couple of questions I am hoping I can get some advice on
1-when I fall on my 2003 KLR; fuel seems to always drain out. I
have installed a second tube to the fuel tank as I only had one when
got the bike, but it seems to drain out from around the gas cap. I
fell last weekend and had the thing on top of me and I got a little
nervous as I had just read a post about a guy who caught his bike on
fire at a Death Valley ride. Is it common for the bike to leak fuel
when it is on its side? I know the easiest way to stop the bike
form leaking is to keep it upright, but I seem to have a problem
with that on the dirt and sand trails. By the way I have hit the
dirt about 7 times and have only broken a choke lever and a clutch
lever. This speaks volumes to the dependability of the KLR, I can't
imagine how much it would have cost me if I was on a DZ400
2- I am a pretty big guy, and am planning on a three day trip to DV
in April. I am worried that I need to upgrade the sub frame bolts.
I am not real mechanically inclined, I am wondering if this is a
task I should try and tackle on my own, or should I try and find
either a Tech days if there is one before this time, or does anyone
know of a good mechanic is Southern Cal that would and could do this
job.
Thanks

I can't help you with your first question but the second one: If you can
turn a screw driver and have a set of metric Allen wrenches, you can do the
bolt upgrade. Remove the side plastics and seat and remove one bolt at a
time and replace it. Make sure you use blue Locktite. It is a pretty simple
procedure.

I forgot to mention, you can get the 4-bolt upgrade through Happy Trails
(http://www.happy-trail.com)

I know guy who bought the new Arai and it will not fit. It is an XL and is solid black. The dealer is selling it for about 370 for him I think. Located in upper east TN. If anyone is interested, shout out I agree with comments on helmet brands in general. I wear HJC off road, and have HJC AC11, Shoei X9 air, and new Arai RX7. Middle of the road Shoei is my overall preference for road, and HJC is fine with me for dirt. Arai is fantastic fit, but noisy. I think they are overhiped.
