wont crank properly

Post by clint lee jin yew » Sun Feb 26, 2006 9:51 pm

my A2 wont crank properly when the lights are on. i just changed the battery to one of those sealed units. cranks like a champ once the lights are off. i ride like 100+km per day. can it be that the battery isn't charging well enough? i did change the buld to a higher wattage unit for the high beans. the normal light is normal. sometimes it happends when the blinkers are on too what gives? clint

Clint, Seems like this evening is my evening for sticking my neck out on long distance troubleshooting. : ) But the turtle doesn't make any progress with out sticking his neck out so... I don't know how you are turning your lights off. Maybe you have a switch or ??? I can't see how the high beam circuit would affect anything if it isn't engaged. So I'm guessing the new bulb doesn't have anything to do with it. Well, here's my guess. I'm betting all of Tony's money : ) you have a bad/poor connection in your wiring. Maybe or quite possibly it's somewhere between the battery and the starter relay or ignition switch or starter button/relay. Or maybe at the starter motor itself. I can't see how your bike is wired or what wires go where but I'm thinking you have resistance along the way where you shouldn't have resistance and that's the problem. If I recall correctly you live in a very humid/moist environment. Corrosion probably happens quite quickly and it doesn't take much to cause all kinds of weird problems. Could it also be a poor ground? Probably. If I was working on this bike those are the places I'd first look. I'd probably do some voltage drop tests to see what's going on. 1998 klr650 for sale

Hello guys, the time has come to sell my bike. I have to consolidate my "Toy Collection". Just bought a car... Gotta sell both my current car and my bike... It's a 1998 (A12 I believe?). The previous owner left it outside in the snow a couple winters and my plastics show signs of being weathers. When I bought it, I dissassembled it to clean it up. I reassembled everything with stainless steel fasteners all around. Rebuilt the front shocks (progressive springs, new seals, new oil), bought a brand new rear shock (OEM, not progressive). I also put a 320mm brake disc in front to improve braking. It doesn't dive so much because of the progressive springs. I rode the bike probably 3-4 thousand miles since I did this rebuild. It's on Dunlop 606's right now. I'm asking for 3100$, which is significantly less than the money I have thrown at this bike (rear shock and brake disc = $$$). But I do need to sell this baby, so serious offers will be considered. Great bike. Sad to have to part from it. JP Granger
