My KLR grew legs (ID or Evolution?) and walked away recently. Now my insurance company (Progressive) is stating that a stock 2001 KLR650 is only worth $2425. They got this number from NADA.com. Kelley Blue Book (KBB.com) says $2925 which is a value that I think is more accurate, but the insurance guy won't listen. So, does anybody have a 16k mile, great condition A15 that they'd sell me for $2425? yeah, right. Or have any advice for getting a more realistic fair market value from Progressive Insurance? KBB just about ALWAYS has higher estimated values...which, of course, are what we'd like to use when it comes to insurance reimbursement in cases like yours. Insurance companies, of course, are always going to want to pay out the lower estimate... Just be thankful you don't have a MINT 87 A1 with just over 5k miles. If mine got stolen, I'd be lucky to receive $300 for it! Scott sheldonweaver wrote: My KLR grew legs (ID or Evolution?) and walked away recently. not to be a wise guy in your time of loss, but I suggest dumping Progressive in favor of GEICO. They base their pay out on what the market will pay for a similar vehicle. Recently, I totaled a PT Cruiser and actually made a few bucks on the pay out. Very good service, too. In my market, they were also cheaper than Progressive, as I recall (it's been awhile since I looked, though). Doug

Ouch! My condolenses on your loss. I've had Progressive Ins. and although they are one of the cheapest when it comes to premiums, they're also tough to get to pay out. Watch for your next premium statement. Because you've now had a claim, expect your premiums to increase also. I've never had a bike stolen, but I've been told if push comes to shove with insurance companies, you can request that they just replace the bike with a comparable replacement of year and mileage. Wouldn't hurt to look into it while you wait. If you don't take their offer, it may be awhile before you get paid anyway. Greg A9 Michigan --- In DSN_KLR650@yahoogroups.com, "sheldonweaver" wrote:

A friend who was in the process of a divorce and splitting his property with his soon-to-be ex-wife used recent eBay sale history (search completed items) to establish fair market values for household items, which satisfied the judge. Maybe you could use the same technique to argue your case with Progressive. Mike A18

Look through the want ads or cycle trader. Find adds in your area that show the higher price and take those in with you to re-negotiate a new payout price. This has worked for me in the past. klr650 tengai 1988 - generator ring - anyone got a spare ???

Post by chris_klr650tengai » Fri Feb 10, 2006 12:35 pm

Hi Guys, My Tengai would not start the other day, checked the plug and only got a very weak yellow spark. Took bike along to local mechanic and after several days he tells me the generator ring is dead or dying. Have anyone got a spare they could sell me ??? The bike is my only transport and I need to get back on the road urgently. (I am in the UK) Cheers, Chris
