klr650 cdi igniter unit
Can anyone please help me, I think that i've fried my cdi unit by
using a mains jump starter when i had a dead battery. The problem i
have now is finding another one ! I live in the UK and these bikes are
not all that common, I have seen a number of cdi units on ebay but
mine has 2 plugs (one with 2 wires and one with 5 wires) plus a yellow
and black wire. The ones I've seen on ebay don't have the yellow/black
wire. Can anyone tell me the differance ? The part number of mine is
21119-1436 however i have seen one cdi unit on ebay with the yellow
and black "extra" wire but the part number was 21119-1272 can anyone
tell me if this would work ? I am at my wits end now can't afford a
new part and can't afford to be without transport. Can anyone help
me ? Does anyone have one for sale PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE help me out
Thanks,Gavin

cdi >unit by using a mains jump starter when i had a dead >battery. Are you sure that you've fried the CDI unit? The ignition system on the KLR is not connected to the battery so should not be affected. I recommend that you do a thorough check to make sure before ordering an expensive part. Obvious areas to check are kill switch, side stand switch, etc. HIH Norm Off to Mexico for a couple of weeks so won't be checking emails. __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? the factory schematic shows the y/bk wire tying into the bk wire that
connects the starter relay and starter circuit relay together. from the
A4-onwards.
I'd say yes it could be used. And even the opposite situation could be
made to work by splicng the y/b into the older circuit
I do not know this to be a certain fact as I have not done it.
But I'd spend my money based on what I see in the manual.
As far as part number look up ronayers.com.
more likely the problem is elsewhere. like Norm said.
post your symptoms here and somebody will answer.

Hi,
Thanks for your response, I do realise that the ignition system
runs independent of the battery electrics however on startup a 12volt
supply is fed to the cdi unit via the starter solonoid and through the
yellow/black wire. This is the reason i am suspecting the cdi is
fried, could this be correct ? The clutch and stand switches are
bypassed and the engine kill switch seems to check out ok. Is there
anything else that it could be. I seem to be getting a pulse from the
pickup coil. Frustrsted !
Gavin.
