I'm planning some long trips this spring/summer with some lonely
stretches of road. I have been toying with the idea of adding a
satellite radio to the KLR. Is anyone using one currently? Any
suggestions?
Also wondering about the antenna configuration. From the user manual
on some of the Sirius radios, it states that the antenna needs to be
mounted on a large metal surface. Hopefully I won't have to strap a
cookie sheet to my helmet.

I've used a Roady and Roady II on a Hoonhardware mount on the brake
resevoir. Antenna mounts to the Hoonhardware mount. Hardwire the power
connector to the battery with a fuse. I took the cigarette lighter
power convertor soldiered wires onto it then filled the connector with
hot glue. The hot glue keeps the power convertor board, connections
and components from being shaken until they disconnect. I've ridden
about 10k miles last year on the KLR like this and it worked perfectly
in Copper Canyon, Big Bend, Arkansas, West Virginia.
I killed my first Roady by yanking the audio output jack multiple
times dismounting the bike with the cable attached. I replaced the
Roady with a Roady II. The Roady hardware is really cheaply assembled
so isolating it from vibration directly relates to the lifespan of the
electronics. I guess it is about ~$50 worth of electronics. The KLR
offroad vibration is pretty brutal on electronics, I've had good luck
with the Hoonhardware mount and RAM mount for the Garmin GPS III+ and
V.

Don't have my XM on the KLR but can tell you XM has better sat.
coverage. With no cookie sheet requirement(ha-ha). My antennas are
mounted on my dashboards inside both truck and
caddy. I don't think you would have any antenna issues with XM.
Besides XM in my opinion is far better with deeper play lists, MLB,
and a killer blues show called Stone Blue on Bluesville that I record
off the no extra charge XM computer connection every week. I've got
the Sirius music channels on Dish Network to compare to and while
they are ok but XM is better. Also if you like Fox News Channel they
are from what I heard leaving Sirius at the first of the year??? Not
100% certain on that but that is floating around on XM group. As of
1/2/06 Fox News Talk will be added to XM and on channel 168. Other
than NFL I see no reason to go with Sirius. Just my 2 cents, hope
that helps.

Sorry, I just assumed most all KLR riders were smarter than than that.
As family friend Zell Miller said, and I believe it went something
like "The current members of the Democrat party could not be more
wrong more often than they are today". 49% for Kerry, God Help Us.
Please know we have not had another 911 for a reason. And it sure
ain't democrat policys keeping America safe & strong.

Ya think?? I don't know about customers loosing Fox being a draw. Maybe only the liberal mind can understand that logic? Anyway all the buzz and activity at the XM yahoo group is from Sirius customers talking about leaving and going to XM because of the loss of FNC. So from what I see there it's certainly not at the least a one way street. Can't imagine people flocking to Sirius because they drop FNC. But then I don't really understand the loonyness that is the liberal mind. All this has got me wanting a more portable docking type XM reciever that I can also use on the bike now though.> tried to change channels away from Fox, that might be a draw.

You know what they saw about Faux News " "The more you watch, the less you know!" Conall> tried to change channels away from Fox, that might be a draw.
