post-crash opinions needed
Hello Everyone, Through a little streak of bad luck my 2004 KLR was
involved in a riderless crash. The details of the crash aren't important
righ now, but I need your input on what comes next. I took the bike to the
local dealer at the request of the insurance adjuster. The dealer did a
damage estimate and tried to work it several different ways. The results
remained the same...total loss. This was a 2004 model purchased new for
$5000 OTD. It had just under 6,000 miles on the clock, was completely
stock, and was otherwise in perfect condition. Speaking with the insurance
adjuster, they plan to offer me the listed NADA value of $3435, plus 3% tax,
plus a $55 registration fee. That's $3693 at a loss of $1307 from the
initial purchase price in January of '04. Here is my issue....At first
glance $3693 looks too low. I did a Kelly Blue Book search and pulled a
value of $3750. I know were only talking a few hundred bucks here, but
replacing the bike with a new one will cost a significant difference.
They're running about $5200 retail. How much do you guys think an insurance
company should pay for an '04. What should happen if we can't get together
on a more reasonable price, or is the current offer reasonable? Any body
have experience with a similar incident? Thank you ahead of time for your
help.
