I need to buy a new KLR 650 in the San Francisco Bay Area, did all the
research regarding dealer costs, etc...but could not get the first two
local dealers to go below $5,800 sales tax and title included. I
offered $5,500 but they did not accept.
Was I too low? I read that some have got theirs for as low as $5,200.
If anyone has bought from the Bay Area for lower than $5,800, I would
appreciate some advice before I try with the 3-4 remaining dealers.
Thank you

Bought my first KLR650 brand spankin new in '89 for $2899 or $3350 out the door,( rare mfg clearance sale, the same yr honda couldn't sell any transalps) with all taxes and fees from Diablo Kawasaki/BMW in Walnut Creek. They have a half way decent service manager there Richard williams. lived in fremont for awhile, would never buy from the Kawa/Honda/HD dealer. service dept was hit and miss, too orientated towards harleys. I'd scour craigs list etc, look for a good used KLR if you can't get one for what they go fer in SoCAL or NV. I'd call every dealer in CA. just for the heck of it try http://www.wilsonsmc.com/ in fresno, for awhile they would underbid anyone and deliver. Those days were gone back in '03 when Wilson's first bid on a new KLR was $6300 OTD. Their final, best bid was still $1100 dollars above another Kawasaki dealer in the area. Do try the dealers in the San Joaquin Valley before going all the way to SoCal. This is a big cruiser and dirt bike area, so dual sports will sometimes languish on the showroom floor. Thank you to all of you who helped me with the price of a
KLR650 in the Bay Area.
After trying all the dealers in the area who ALL tried to waste by
time by giving me the "I have to ask my manager" dance, I found out
that Kawasaki Oakland has just reopened.
The new owner is the same as the one in Orange County and sells with
OTD prices. I was in and out in 20 mns.
I paid $5399, everything included, lower than what I planned to pay
($5500) and way below the minimum price I got from all these dealers
($5,800).
All the best

I'm still getting email off list from the crooz character. He is using things that happened a year ago to justify his actions. I do not have access to all those he has written to - so I will attempt to put this to bed here. At one time a long time ago, someone got a virus/spyware into the server his site was on. Glenn (asap) sent out info on how to defeat it. The virus was not in his site code - it was on the server, out of his control. There was also a guy that attempted to represent himself as a rider attempting to set up a group buy, when he was in fact a vendor. The same guy tried it on an FJR forum. This situation and the after-effects led to the site being down for a few days, and led to Glenn getting a new server. Those of use that were there know this is the truth. It really upsets me that a lister here would use this list to attack, and spread falsehood. I'm not afraid to use my name, and sign this.
