klr 650 in portland oregon

Post by joeyp411 » Tue Oct 11, 2005 6:53 pm

Hi, I am new to the group and live in Portland Oregon. I looking to buy a KLR 650. I have looked at some new bikes and the 2 dealers I have visited quoted me a price of $5500 out the door. Both dealers told me that the price is firm because they sell every bike they get. I will probably go with a used bike. Can anyone provide any input on what are the best model years or what to look for in a used bike or does anyone know of a dealer in the Portland area that is willing to discount bikes? I would be willing to spend up to $3500 for a nice used bike but hope to spend closer to 3K. Any input will be greatly appreciated. Thanks

The bikes are basically the same. Try and look for a bike ridden (not ridden ) by a 50's plus guy that entertained riding to Alaska, Tierra del Fuego, Africa or Colorado even that has less than 2,000 miles on it and is a couple years old. I.E. Mid Life Crisis. What he really wanted was a Harley cruiser that he can ride on Sunday to pick up chicks with because he was divorced and lonely. Don't buy one that is 2 years old, has all sorts of accessories on it, tires are worn, scratches all over it with bent stuff here and there and a lot of wear on the chain. And it has 20,000, 30,000, or 40,000 miles. This guy used his as it was intended to be used. My brother is one of those in the first paragraph. He is not divorced but he is lucky he is not. Criswell
