leaking petcock
Just discovered that petcock is leaking when the engine is running. I
tightened the four screws that contain the diaphram, they were a
little loose, hopeing that this would stop the leak, but to it still
leaks. Looks like I will need a repair kit. I am drawing on the
collective wisdom of this list. Does anyone have any insight into
this problem?

Yes, you probably will need to rebuild the petcock. You might want to inspect it first. In my experience the O-ring on the tap lever can stretch by rubbing against its housing and cease sealing. I now apply a little grease to it once in a while. I don't remember if it can be bought separately though it does have a part number # 92055-1085. Also, I've noticed crud from the tank can find its way in there. I suppose that could rest on one of the soft parts and cause a leak. Again, take a look. Kawi sells no kit per se, just need the replacement diaphragm and o-ring and gasket. Fred at arrowhead sells a kit I believe. My local dealer *gasp* actually had one in stock and only $12 for the little thing, there are "fixes" that can be done, but putting the diaphram back in made the most sense to me. Thanks Listers. I managed to get a look at the exploded parts
diagram of the petcock assembly later this afternoon, the leak has to
be by the small O-ring. Ordered a repair kit from Fred. Down to one
bike until I get the kit from Fred, but thats ok.

leaking petcock
Hi!
I cranked my 2002 KLR650 up to go riding and noticed that it was
spitting gas in the petcock area. Upon further examination I found
that it is "spitting" gas from between what appears to be a white
spacer on the petcock. I removed the tank and tightned the 4 screws
that hold this white spacer in place, but it did no good. I find it
odd that it "spits" the gas out in small squirts as opposed to a
simple leak. I though I would check here before taking the petcock
apart. Thanks for any help!

Kit to rebuit the petcock cost me like $12 even in this one pony town. More of a surprise was that they had it onhand... Spitting is from the pulses of the vacuum I bet.
